The current state of our planet drives me to create opportunities for change. I believe that being a designer is a key role towards creating a more sustainable future. This is because the decisions we make during the design process could have large consequences or successes from an environmental standpoint. My projects carry this motivation and integrate it with user centric and aesthetically pleasing designs. For example, projects that I have completed such as the Electric Car charger and the plastic bottle alternative, are based around issues at the forefront of the current environmental discussion. These issues are CO2 emissions and a major crossroads in the automotive industry with the introduction of electric cars, as well as our oceans being more polluted than ever through unnecessary and overuse of plastic. My design approach with regards to pollution is that our focus shouldn’t be on partaking in a vicious circle, with a more short-term mindset towards creating products to clean the existing pollution. I believe that our efforts should be towards trying to prevent any further pollution by designing better alternatives than our current products with more carefully selected materials. This is shown in the project based on providing a plastic bottle alternative. Combining this design philosophy with divergent thinking and a more circular ideology I am a firm believer that the designs I produce could contribute to a future, more sustainable society.

Mae cyflwr presennol ein planed yn fy sbarduno i greu cyfleoedd ar gyfer newid. Credaf fod bod yn ddylunydd yn rôl allweddol o ran creu dyfodol mwy cynaliadwy. Mae hyn oherwydd y gallai’r penderfyniadau a wnawn yn ystod y broses ddylunio arwain at ganlyniadau neu lwyddiannau mawr o safbwynt amgylcheddol. Mae’r cymhelliant hwn yn rhan annatod o’m prosiectau ac yn cyfuno hynny â chynlluniau sy’n canolbwyntio ar y defnyddiwr ac sy’n wledd i’r llygaid. Er enghraifft, cwblheais brosiectau fel gwefrydd car trydan a photel amgen i un blastig, yn seiliedig ar faterion sy’n rhan flaenllaw o drafodaethau amgylcheddol cyfredol. Y materion hyn yw allyriadau CO2 a chroesffordd bwysig yn y diwydiant modurol yn sgil cyflwyno ceir trydan, yn ogystal â’n cefnforoedd yn cael eu llygru fwy nag erioed oherwydd ein defnydd diangen, a gormodol, o blastig. Fel dylunydd, credaf na ddylem barhau â’r cylch dieflig o feddwl am syniadau tymor byr i greu cynhyrchion i lanhau’r llygredd presennol. Rwy’n credu y dylem ganolbwyntio ein hymdrechion ar geisio atal unrhyw lygredd pellach trwy gynllunio cynhyrchion amgen gwell na’n cynhyrchion presennol gyda deunyddiau a ddewisir yn fwy gofalus. Dangosir hyn yn y prosiect sy’n seiliedig ar ddarparu dewis amgen i botel blastig. Gan gyfuno’r athroniaeth ddylunio hon â ffordd wahanol o feddwl ac ideoleg fwy cylchol, rwy’n grediniol y gallai’r dyluniadau rwy’n eu cynhyrchu gyfrannu at gymdeithas fwy cynaliadwy yn y dyfodol.

Resealable Can – Unbranded

Only 10% of plastic bottles produced worldwide are being recycled and are polluting the land and oceans. This resealable aluminium can aims to reduce the need for plastic bottles and boost recycling, convenience and user satisfaction.

Dim ond 10% o’r poteli plastig a gaiff eu cynhyrchu ledled y byd sy’n cael eu hailgylchu, ac maen nhw’n llygru’r tir a’r cefnforoedd. Nod y tun alwminiwm ailseliadwy hwn yw lleihau’r angen am boteli plastig a hybu ailgylchu, cyfleustra a boddhad defnyddwyr.

Resealable Can – Gordans Gin

The resealable can uses current manufacturing techniques, not to disturb the canned beverage industry. The can is able to hold a wide range of soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and water. Here is an example of the can branded with Gordan’s Pink Gin and Tonic Premix.

Mae’r tun ailseliadwy yn defnyddio technegau gweithgynhyrchu presennol, i beidio ag aflonyddu ar y diwydiant diodydd tun. Mae’r tun yn gallu dal ystod eang o ddiodydd meddal, diodydd alcoholig a dŵr. Dyma enghraifft o’r tun â’r brand Gordan’s Pink Gin and Tonic Premix.

VW EV Charger

This Volkswagen iD Electric Vehicle charger aims to bring down the barriers to entry when purchasing an Electric Car. It offers a suitable, home charging solution for people who are unable to install home chargers due to a lack of private parking and poor infrastructure. The charger gives more people the option to buy an electric car, making an electric future possible for everyone.

Nod y gwefrydd Cerbydau Trydan Volkswagen hwn yw chwalu’r rhwystrau rhag mynediad wrth brynu Car Trydan. Mae’n cynnig datrysiad addas ar gyfer trydanu gartref i bobl nad ydynt yn gallu gosod gwefrydd cartref oherwydd diffyg man parcio preifat a seilwaith gwael. Mae’r gwefrydd yn rhoi’r opsiwn i ragor o bobl brynu car trydan, gan wneud dyfodol trydan yn bosibl i bawb.

Interaction Sketches W2W competition brief

The brief challenged us to design furniture that fits into a circular economy and encourages collaboration within the work / learn space. The concept was to create sculptural furniture to try and spark creativity among University students. These sketches are communicating how I envisioned the collaborations taking place.

Roedd y brîff yn ein herio i ddylunio dodrefn sy’n addas ar gyfer yr economi gylchol ac sy’n annog cydweithredu o fewn y gofod gwaith / dysgu. Y cysyniad oedd creu dodrefn cerfluniol â’r nod o danio creadigrwydd ymhlith myfyrwyr Prifysgol. Mae’r brasluniau hyn yn cyfleu sut y gwelais y cydweithredu’n digwydd.
