BA (Hons) Fine Art

My artwork is based on the relationship between children and art. I have investigated the benefits of the arts to children’s cognitive development and education throughout my dissertation and artwork. I also researched the benefits of art therapy for children and adults. In particular, I have concentrated on the action or process of drawing and painting, and recognising how this can be a therapeutic or relaxing exercise. Alongside this, I have explored how art therapy can benefit children with mental health issues or learning difficulties by exploring the artwork of children from the National Autistic Society (NAS) Bristol. I have chosen to work mostly in pattern and ‘doodles’ after studying and being inspired by certain aspects of the artworks created by the children at NAS Bristol. With a particular aim to concentrate on the process rather than merely the final outcome of my art work, I have focused on a series of ‘doodles’ that I find myself drawing as a way to distract myself. This therefore becomes a form of personal art therapy.

Mae fy ngwaith celf yn seiliedig ar y berthynas rhwng plant a chelf. Rwyf wedi archwilio manteision y celfyddydau i ddatblygiad gwybyddol plant a’u haddysg drwy fy nhraethawd hir a’m gwaith celf i gyd. Rwyf wedi ymchwilio hefyd i fanteision therapi celf i blant ac oedolion. Yn benodol, rwyf wedi canolbwyntio ar y weithred neu’r broses o dynnu llun a pheintio gan adnabod sut gall hyn fod yn ymarfer therapiwtig neu’n un sy’n ymlacio. Wrth ochr hyn rwyf wedi archwilio sut gall therapi celf fod yn fuddiol i blant sydd â phroblemau iechyd meddwl neu anawsterau dysgu drwy archwilio gwaith celf plant o’r NAS (Y Gymdeithas Awtistig Genedlaethol) ym Mryste. Dewisais weithio gyda phatrymau a ‘dwdls’ yn bennaf wedi astudio a chael fy ysbrydoli gan rai agweddau o’r gweithiau celf a grëwyd gan y plant yn NAS Bryste. Â nod penodol i ganolbwyntio ar y broses yn hytrach na chanlyniad terfynol fy ngwaith celf yn unig, rwyf wedi canolbwyntio ar gyfres o dwdls rwy’n cael fy hun yn eu tynnu yn ffordd i droi fy meddwl. Daw hyn, felly, yn fath o therapi celf personol.

My work explores the relationship between a space and the art in it. I have become intrigued by how a painting can effect a space, exploring corporate art, it can be used to influence productivity and creativity in that environment. With influence from Colour Theory,...

We have never been so connected yet so alone. The internet has become integral to our daily lives, no element of our existence seems untouched by it. But have we been caught and paralysed in the web? We are constantly on display and exposed, yet anonymous. We seem to...

I would describe my art as confessional; I take inspiration from my life events and feelings surrounding these experiences, I translate this through my work. I see my practice as a portal from my life in which I can lose myself and explore the deepest truths of my...

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
