The Project is to design a Performing Arts Centre located on Britannia Quay, Cardiff. The building is to house a performance theatre, an art exhibition, a coffee shop, a bar/restaurant, dance aerobics classes, meeting rooms and educational rooms. The design was driven by three main themes.

Sustainability – The building has several sustainble strategies, such as the Natural Ventilation Heat Recovery system which uses low power to naturally ventilate and aid in heating rooms whilst providing a comfortable working/socialising environment for occupants. The rain water collection system, photovoltaic panels and solar shading systems which take advantage of Cardiff’s microclimate whilst minimizing the affect the building has on its environment.

Site Maximisation – The site’s shape has been used to its maximum capability, with the building curving around the site edge. Each room has been tactically positioned to suit its need for light and heat whilst maximising the sun’s lighting and heating potential.

Opportunity – The CC Centre provides the opportunity for groups of all ages and ability to perform in a theatre, rehearse in a studio or be creative in an art class. It also offer spaces to rent for artists looking to advertise their work. The opportunity for businesses, groups or individuals to rent exhibition spaces, meeting rooms or dance and aerobics classes.
