Georgie Gibbons

BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

My practice focuses on functional homeware which explores the ideals of everyday mundane objects. My work places its central value on the human-object relationship within the home, and how we can form personal connections with objects. This is of specific significance when it comes to the objects we use for eating as it is one of our most intimate relationships with an object. I use a variety of hand-building techniques combined with different mould making methods, with my hands being the most important tool for me as a maker. Gestural making allows me to work intuitively, using such an approach enables the realised form to come from sensory thought and material knowledge rather than a preconceived idea. This enables the forms to be embodiments of my thinking through making.

Mae fy arfer yn canolbwyntio ar nwyddau cartref ymarferol sy’n ymchwilio i ddelfrydau gwrthrychau bob dydd cyffredin. Mae fy ngwaith yn gosod ei werth canolog ar y berthynas rhwng dyn a’r gwrthrych o fewn y cartref, a sut y gallwn ffurfio cysylltiadau personol â gwrthrychau. Mae hyn o arwyddocâd arbennig o ran y gwrthrychau a ddefnyddiwn i fwyta gan mai dyna un o’n perthnasoedd agosaf â gwrthrych. Rwy’n defnyddio amrywiaeth o dechnegau adeiladu â llaw wedi’u cyfuno â dulliau gwneud mowldiau gwahanol, fy nwylo yw’r arf pwysicaf i mi fel crëwr. Mae creu seiliedig ar ystumiau’n fy ngalluogi i weithio’n reddfol, mae defnyddio’r fath ddull yn galluogi i’r ffurf a wireddir ddeillio o feddwl synhwyraidd a gwybodaeth ddiriaethol yn hytrach na syniad a ragdybiwyd. Mae hyn yn galluogi i’r ffurfiau fod yn ymgorfforiad o fy syniadau trwy greu.
