Women “From the Caged to the Empowered”

I am a contemporary artist that makes contemplative artifacts which questions the norm. Looking at the theme of womanhood and the power play between man and woman. My work explores the nature of how women are depicted in a male dominated world. Currently my art consists of sculptures that portrays this power play. Made from matchsticks, and inspired by wicker men, the structures use the association allotted to the matchstick as a masculine object to inform and enforce the figures with the male aspect. I have also brought in a 2D element in the form of collage, using imagery of women to create a shadow cast by the figure, this juxtaposition between the two brings into the fore the question of who, holds the true power man or the woman along with showing the women in an empowered state. Looking forward I wish to develop my explorations into these matchstick figurative forms, playing with how 2D and 3D aesthetics combine, with the abstracted silhouettes of the matchstick men and the more descriptive forms found in the collages(shadows). I am excited at the prospect of how far these forms will take me, and my art.

Merched “O Gaethiwed i Rymuso”

Rwy’n arlunydd cyfoes sy’n creu arteffactau myfyrgar sy’n cwestiynu’r norm. Edrych ar thema benywdod a’r gemau pŵer rhwng dyn a menyw. Mae fy ngwaith yn archwilio natur y modd y caiff menywod eu darlunio mewn byd lle mae dynion yn dominyddu. Ar hyn o bryd, mae fy nghelf yn cynnwys cerfluniau sy’n portreadu’r gemau pŵer hyn. Wedi’u gwneud o goesau matsis, ac wedi’u hysbrydoli gan ddynion gwiail, mae’r strwythurau’n defnyddio’r cysylltiad o fatsien fel gwrthrych gwrywaidd i lywio ac atgyfnerthu’r ffigurau gyda’r agwedd wrywaidd. Rwyf hefyd wedi cyflwyno elfen 2D ar ffurf collage, gan ddefnyddio delweddaeth o fenywod i greu cysgod i’r ffigur. Mae’r cyfosodiad hwn rhwng y ddau yn amlygu’r cwestiwn os mai gan ddynion neu fenywod y mae’r pŵer gwirioneddol, ynghyd â dangos y menywod mewn cyflwr o fod wedi’u grymuso. Wrth edrych ymlaen, hoffwn ddatblygu fy archwiliadau i’r ffurfiau coesau matsis ffigurol hyn, gan chwarae gyda sut mae estheteg 2D a 3D yn cyfuno, gyda silwetau haniaethol y dynion coesau matsis a’r ffurfiau mwy disgrifiadol a geir yn y collage (cysgodion). Mae meddwl pa mor bell yr aiff y ffurfiau hyn, a fy nghelf, yn fy nghyffroi.
