My work is comprised of waste materials in order to explore the notion of waste possessing transformative values. The ephemeral qualities of my work reflect the movement of waste through the space we inhabit. By positioning my work in spaces that are functional, yet overlooked I hope to draw attention to the presence of detritus directly in front of us. The transition of sculpture into public, everyday spaces grounds the work in reality, aiding audience recognition, identification and confrontation. This also creates a heightened awareness of space, which in turn establishes a new evaluation of the object. Through the transformation of both material and space into art objects their value is changed. This question of value is further explored by placing the objects in a white gallery space. This drastic movement creates distance; disassociating the source of the work from its origin. In turn this causes a viewer to further consider the importance of space and how we engage with materials.

Mae fy ngwaith yn cynnwys deunyddiau gwastraff er mwyn archwilio’r syniad fod gwastraff yn meddu ar werthoedd trawsnewidiol. Mae rhinweddau byrhoedlog fy ngwaith yn adlewyrchu symudiad gwastraff drwy’r gofod rydyn ni’n byw ynddo. Drwy leoli fy ngwaith mewn lleoedd sy’n swyddogaethol, ond sy’n cael eu hanwybyddu, rwy’n gobeithio tynnu sylw at bresenoldeb malurion o flaen ein llygaid. Mae trosglwyddo cerflunwaith i fannau cyhoeddus cyffredin yn seilio’r gwaith mewn realiti, gan hybu cydnabyddiaeth, adnabyddiaeth a chyfwynebiad ar ran y gynulleidfa. Mae hyn hefyd yn creu ymwybyddiaeth ehangach o’r gofod, sydd yn ei dro yn sefydlu gwerthusiad newydd o’r gwrthrych. Drwy drawsnewid y deunydd a’r gofod yn wrthrychau celf, mae eu gwerth yn cael ei newid. Mae’r cwestiwn hwn o werth yn cael ei archwilio ymhellach drwy osod y gwrthrychau mewn gofod oriel gwyn. Mae’r symudiad syfrdanol hwn yn creu pellter; yn datgysylltu ffynhonnell y gwaith o’i darddiad. Yn ei dro, mae hynny’n peri i’r gwyliwr roi rhagor o ystyriaeth i bwysigrwydd gofod a’r modd rydyn ni’n ymgysylltu â deunyddiau.

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
