Lydia Rose Hitchings

BA (Hons) Textiles

Lydia is a part-time, 3rd year student, balancing Netball alongside her creative subject, Textiles. Lydia specialises in Surface Design, and has a desire for sustainable and ethical practises. Her focuses specialise in free-flowing techniques, including linear drawings, large scale collaging, and a combination of mixed media.

Music is a big influence on her design work and creativity.

Lydia will listen to specific genres of music, depending on the theme for her design. She finds this a very helpful way of immersing herself into a particular time-period, or design focus.

Lydia’s final collection is inspired by the ‘Swinging Sixties’ period, a youth-driven cultural revolution, that emphasised modernity and fun-loving hedonism. It saw art, music and fashion flourish.

Her collection consists of three sub-collections, suited for swim and beachwear.

‘Up-tight’ is inspired by the traditional 60’s design approach, with fine liner florals and tighter motifs.

‘Twist & Shout’ is more of an abstract collection, focusing on female shapes and lines, florals and contemporary layout.

‘Surfing USA’ incorporates elements of the beach and its surroundings; such as the waves, and life underneath the water.

Mae Lydia yn fyfyrwraig ran-amser ar ei thrydedd blwyddyn, ac mae’n cydbwyso pêl-rwyd a’i phwnc creadigol, tecstilau. Mae Lydia yn arbenigo mewn dylunio ar yr wyneb, ac mae ganddi ddiddordeb mewn arferion cynaliadwy a moesegol. Mae’n arbenigo mewn technegau sy’n llifo’n rhwydd, gan gynnwys darluniau llinol, collage ar raddfa fawr, a chyfuniad o gyfryngau cymysg.

Mae cerddoriaeth yn ddylanwad mawr ar ei gwaith dylunio a’i chreadigrwydd. Bydd Lydia yn gwrando ar genres penodol o gerddoriaeth, yn dibynnu ar thema ei chynllun. Mae’n ffordd hynod ddefnyddiol o ymgolli’n llwyr mewn cyfnod penodol o amser neu ganolbwynt y dylunio.

Ysbrydolwyd casgliad terfynol Lydia gan gyfnod y ‘Swinging Sixties’, chwyldro diwylliannol wedi’i lywio gan ieuenctid, a bwysleisiai moderniaeth a hedoniaeth hwyliog. Cyfnod o ffyniant mewn celfyddyd, ffasiwn a cherddoriaeth.

Mae ei chasgliad yn cynnwys tri is-gasgliad, sy’n addas ar gyfer dillad nofio a’r traeth.

Mae ‘Up-tight’ wedi’i ysbrydoli gan ddulliau dylunio traddodiadol y 60au, gyda motiffau blodau llinellol cain a rhai tynnach.

Mae ‘Twist & Shout’ yn gasgliad mwy haniaethol, sy’n canolbwyntio ar siapiau a llinellau benywaidd, blodau a diwyg cyfoes.

Elfennau’r traeth a’r amgylchedd yw testun ‘Surfing USA’; fel y tonnau a bywyd o dan y dŵr.
