BA (Hons) Product Design

I believe sustainable considerations should inspire every stage of the design process. Eco-centric design is number one priority. At present, humanity is tackling the issues of balancing the levels of sustainability. Future product designers can change the logistics of the product population to reduce impact product design has on sustainability, by designing developed solutions to identified problems. As a young product designer, I want to fulfil a career in product design and know that I was part of a team that made a difference.

My eye for a problem makes me incredibly confident when constructing an appropriate brief. I thrive through transforming research to create ideation. My favourite part of the design process is having little sense of direction through the ideating, generating 1001 wonderful solutions through ideation techniques and furthermore thinking conceptually to select key ideas and then progressing via strong design development and ideation.

Throughout my degree I have been involved in multiple projects which allowed me to develop my approach to eco-centric design and sustainability. Working alongside DS Smith a highly accomplished packaging company, to create a new service to increase the efficiency of cardboard getting to their HQ to recycle. This project was also successful by increasing the desire for people to recycle their packaging using an innovative and participatory approach. Through this project my passion for sustainability drove me through and it is my goal to apply my skills to similar projects through my design career.

Rwy’n credu y dylai ystyriaethau cynaliadwy ysbrydoli pob cam o’r broses ddylunio. Dylunio eco-ganolog yw’r brif flaenoriaeth. Ar hyn o bryd, mae dynoliaeth yn mynd i’r afael â phroblemau cydbwyso lefelau cynaliadwyedd. Gall dylunwyr cynnyrch y dyfodol newid logisteg y boblogaeth cynnyrch i leihau’r effaith y caiff dylunio cynnyrch ar gynaliadwyedd, drwy ddylunio atebion datblygedig i broblemau a nodwyd. Fel dylunydd cynnyrch ifanc, rwyf am gael gyrfa ym maes dylunio cynnyrch a gwybod fy mod yn rhan o dîm a wnaeth wahaniaeth.

Mae fy ngallu i weld problem yn fy ngwneud i’n hynod hyderus wrth adeiladu brîff priodol. Rwy’n ffynnu drwy drawsnewid ymchwil i greu syniadaeth. Fy hoff ran o’r broses ddylunio yw cael fawr ddim ymdeimlad o gyfeiriad drwy’r broses o greu syniadau, cynhyrchu 1001 o atebion gwych drwy dechnegau syniadaeth ac ar ben hynny meddwl yn gysyniadol i ddewis syniadau allweddol ac yna symud ymlaen trwy ddatblygiad dylunio a syniadaeth cryf.

Drwy gydol fy ngradd rwyf wedi bod yn rhan o nifer o brosiectau a roddodd gyfle i mi ddatblygu fy null o ymdrin â dylunio eco-ganolog a chynaliadwyedd. Gan weithio gyda DS Smith, cwmni pecynnu medrus iawn, i greu gwasanaeth newydd i wneud i gardfwrdd gyrraedd y pencadlys yn fwy effeithlon i’w ailgylchu. Bu’r prosiect yn llwyddiannus hefyd drwy gynyddu awydd pobl i ailgylchu eu deunydd pacio gan ddefnyddio dull arloesol a chyfranogol. Drwy gydol y prosiect, fy angerdd am gynaliadwyedd oedd yr hyn a’m sbarduno ymlaen a’m nod yw cymhwyso fy sgiliau i brosiectau tebyg drwy fy ngyrfa ddylunio.

This is an image of my bus shelter in a city environment. As well as trying to reduce the amount of air pollution being are exposed to while waiting for the bus, another aim was for the bus shelter to aesthetically fit into a city environment. So, the image experiments my bus shelter in a roadside scenario, to test whether I have achieved this goal.

Dyma lun o fy nghysgodfa bws mewn amgylchedd dinas. Yn ogystal â cheisio lleihau maint y llygredd aer yr amlygir pobl iddo wrth aros am y bws, un nod arall oedd i’r gysgodfa bws gydweddu’n esthetig ag amgylchedd dinas. Felly, mae’r ddelwedd yn arbrofi gyda fy nghysgodfa bws mewn senario ymyl ffordd, i brofi p’un a ydwyf wedi cyflawni’r nod hwn.

This image is some examples of an application I designed for DS Smith. Students were identified for having low recycling efficiency. So, the application is designed to encourage students to increase the rate in which they recycle, by awarding points to spend on vouchers for local businesses around their area. As well as the app increasing student recycling, it also increasing the amount of packaging being returned to DS Smith for them to recycle.

Yn y llun hwn ceir enghreifftiau o gymhwysiad a ddyluniais ar gyfer DS Smith. Nodwyd bod lefel effeithlonrwydd ailgylchu isel gan fyfyrwyr. Felly, mae’r cymhwysiad wedi’i ddylunio i annog myfyrwyr i gynyddu’u cyfradd ailgylchu, trwy ddyfarnu pwyntiau i’w gwario ar dalebau ar gyfer busnesau lleol yn eu hardal. Yn ogystal â bod yr ap yn cynyddu ailgylchu ymhlith myfyrwyr, mae hefyd yn cynyddu faint o ddeunydd pacio sy’n cael ei ddychwelyd i DS Smith iddyn nhw ei ailgylchu.

This is a final sketch of my bus shelter. It was the final sketch I did before completing my CAD model. This one of my favourites sketches because I love the realism of the render and the perspective on the drawing. Also, I like how it communicates the concept. It easily shows the viewer what the concept is with design detailing.

Dyma fraslun terfynol o fy nghysgodfa bws. Hwn oedd y braslun terfynol a wneuthum cyn cwblhau fy model CAD. Hwn yw un o fy hoff frasluniau oherwydd rwy’n caru realiti’r rendr a’r persbectif ar y lluniad. Hefyd, rwy’n hoffi sut mae’n cyfleu’r cysyniad. Gyda manylion dylunio, mae’n dangos i’r gwyliwr beth yw’r cysyniad yn rhwydd.

This is a final render of headphones I designed in 2nd year for a field project. The project was entirely based around designing for your target user. We were put into groups and through the short project we had to constantly research and interview our chosen user to design a music system perfect for them. My user emphasised that they wanted a way to easily adjust volume and change songs on the headphones.

Dyma rendr terfynol o glustffonau a ddyluniais yn fy 2ail flwyddyn ar gyfer prosiect maes. Roedd y prosiect wedi’i seilio’n llwyr ar ddylunio ar gyfer eich defnyddiwr targed. Cawsom ein rhoi mewn grwpiau, a thrwy’r prosiect byr roedd yn rhaid i ni ymchwilio’n gyson a chyfweld â’n defnyddiwr dewisedig i ddylunio system gerddoriaeth sy’n berffaith iddyn nhw. Fe wnaeth fy nefnyddiwr i bwysleisio ei fod eisiau ffordd i allu addasu’r sŵn yn hawdd a newid caneuon ar y clustffonau.
