I Crave You, Yet I Loathe You
Skin forms the ultimate boundary of the body, one which separates “self” from “other”. I aim to highlight our relationship with skin as a complex one. Disruption of bodily boundaries causes fear and anxiety- threatening ones’ existence. The merging of internal and external concerning the body is socially denied within our culture as a form of self-protection.
Boundaries fascinate me, through this work I will express the desire to break through such boundaries, to fantasize about the abject- to consume it. Eating becomes intriguing as it is an acceptable form merging interior and exterior. Exploring here the hierarchy of the human bodies orifices. Portraying my personal relationship with food and the contrasting negative effect this has on my body image. The grotesque and brutal nature of eating is here exposed.
In turn realising we are all that is abject.
