Knitting is my hobby. It is also a hobby often viewed by the population at large in a kind of negative light due to it’s domestic connotations and the idea that it is merely a futile and thankless pastime for elderly women. I myself have been the butt of many a joke about being a grandma because I knit. Knitting is not taken seriously. Knitting has an image problem. I don’t believe this should be the case.

These are my clothes. I wear them and I made them because it is my hobby. One that I find relaxing and comforting. Here I have presented my clothes as an artwork, in the hope that it may bring to light the love, care and skill that goes into making knitted garments. It is not a meaningless pastime at all. Hundreds of hours of my life were spent making these garments. These were hours spent with my grandma, who taught me to knit in the first place. We sit together and knit, chatting and watching telly on a lazy day. There were hours spent with friends, having a girls night in, watching movies, drinking and gossiping, and these were hours spent alone, in moments of relaxation bordering on meditative. All of these hours are here in these garments, and just as with any other artwork creative decisions were constantly made throughout. Some of the pieces were made quickly, others were works in progress for years, remaining constant throughout changes in my life. Knitting, the act of it and the finished garment, is my comfort, and my love goes into it

Gwau yw fy hobi. Mae’n hobi y bydd y boblogaeth yn gyffredinol yn ei ystyried mewn ffordd negyddol yn aml am fod iddo gysylltiadau domestig ynghyd â’r syniad nad yw ond yn rhywbeth di-werth a di-ddiolch i hen fenywod ei wneud. Rwyf i fy hunan wedi cael llawer o bobl yn tynnu fy nghoes am fod yn fam-gu am fy mod yn gwau. Nid yw gwau yn cael ei gymryd o ddifrif. Mae gan wau broblem delwedd. Dw i ddim yn credu mai dyna sut y dylai pethau fod.

Dyma fy nillad. Rwy’n eu gwisgo ac fe wnes i nhw gan mai hwn yw fy hobi; un sy’n gwneud i fi ymlacio ac sy’n gwneud i fi deimlo’n gyffyrddus. Yma rwyf wedi cyflwyno fy nillad fel gwaith celf, gan obeithio y gallai’r hoffter, y gofal a’r sgìl sy’n mynd i mewn i wneud dillad wedi’u gwau ddod i’r amlwg. Nid yw’n ffordd ddiystyr i dreulio’ch amser o gwbl. Bues i wrthi am gannoedd o oriau yn gwneud y dillad hyn, oriau oedd y rhain y gwnes i eu treulio gyda fy mam-gu a wnaeth fy nysgu i wau yn y lle cyntaf. Byddwn yn eistedd gyda’n gilydd yn gwau, gan sgwrsio a gwylio’r teledu ar ddiwrnod dioglyd. Roedd oriau a dreuliwyd gyda ffrindiau, noson yn y tŷ i’r merched, yn edrych ar ffilmiau, yn yfed ac yn clebran; ac roedd oriau a dreuliwyd heb gwmni neb arall, cyfnodau o ymlacio a oedd yn ymylu ar fod yn fyfyriol. Mae pob un o’r oriau hyn, yma yn y dillad hyn ac, yn union fel gydag unrhyw waith celf arall, câi penderfyniadau creadigol eu gwneud drwy’r amser. Cafodd rhai o’r darnau eu gwneud yn gyflym, roedd eraill ar waith am flynyddoedd, yn aros yn gyson drwy’r newidiadau yn fy mywyd. Gwau, a’r weithred o’i gyflawni, a’r dilledyn gorffenedig yw fy nghysur ac mae fy nghariad yn mynd i mewn iddo.

My work explores the relationship between a space and the art in it. I have become intrigued by how a painting can effect a space, exploring corporate art, it can be used to influence productivity and creativity in that environment. With influence from Colour Theory,...

We have never been so connected yet so alone. The internet has become integral to our daily lives, no element of our existence seems untouched by it. But have we been caught and paralysed in the web? We are constantly on display and exposed, yet anonymous. We seem to...

I would describe my art as confessional; I take inspiration from my life events and feelings surrounding these experiences, I translate this through my work. I see my practice as a portal from my life in which I can lose myself and explore the deepest truths of my...

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
