My project is based on the development of the prominent waterside site at Cardiff Bay, South Wales. The building is to include a mixed use of residential, office and commercial space that’s elevated over 7-storeys, the building will accommodate 42 apartments a mix of one and two bed flats with a top floor of penthouse suites and a communal garden area, the ground and first floor will be used for a mix of retail and commercial office space.
The concept behind my building was to use the surrounding areas as the basis of my design using existing materials as well as creating an innovative design by using the Welsh daffodil as a concept, the building was designed with the daffodil petal shape in mind and helped construct my floor plans to develop the unusual shape of my building.
The building is a creation of passive ecological design, it maximises the suns energy using photovoltaics on the roof as well as incorporating a water source heat pump connected via the docks to heat the building and produce electrical energy, creating a sustainable and eco-friendly building.

Bydd yr adeilad yn cynnwys defnydd cymysg o ofod preswyl, swyddfeydd a masnachol wedi’u trefnu dros 7 llawr, bydd yr adeilad yn cynnwys 42 o fflatiau, cymysgedd o fflatiau un a dwy ystafell wely gyda llawr uchaf o fflatiau pentis ac ardal gardd gymunedol, caiff y llawr gwaelod a’r llawr cyntaf eu defnyddio ar gyfer cymysgedd o ofod manwerthu, masnachol a swyddfeydd.
Y cysyniad y tu ôl i fy adeilad oedd defnyddio’r ardal amgylchynol fel sail i fy nyluniad gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau presennol yn ogystal â chreu dyluniad arloesol gan ddefnyddio’r genhinen bedr Gymreig fel cysyniad, dyluniwyd yr adeilad gyda siâp petal y genhinen bedr mewn cof ac fe helpodd i adeiladu fy nghynlluniau llawr i ddatblygu siâp anarferol fy adeilad.
Mae’r adeilad wedi’i greu gyda dyluniad ecolegol goddefol, mae’n uchafu ynni’r haul gan ddefnyddio paneli ffotofoltaidd ar y to yn ogystal ag ymgorffori pwmp gwres ffynhonnell ddŵr a gysylltir trwy’r dociau i wresogi’r adeilad a chynhyrchu ynni trydanol, gan greu adeilad cynaliadwy sy’n llesol i’r amgylchedd.
