Am I Dreaming?

My practise revolves around my interest in how we as humans interact with and understand our world around us. These pieces explore the similarity between how we understand both the construction of dreams and reality and how we separate the two. We use modes such as perception, memory, detail and association to serve as pillars for our construction of both dreams and reality, however these signifiers are used in different ways for each. We see reality as a linear constant with one thing following another, we believe this to be real. However within dreams time and memory become fragmented, objects and events merge as the unconscious mind merges with our perception of reality. The question arises, how do we know our idea of reality is true? When does reality become the dream and how have our dreams become reality? The fragmented and conjoined objects serve as a visual signifier for this idea, with the encompassing glass domes serving as our internal selves.

My work has evolved through an investigation into contemporary societies and the concept that modern civilisations have transitioned from a 'solid’ to 'liquid’ modernity. This means that we no longer seek a well-ordered world of stable structures but desire a world in...
