Mind over movement

Movement is something the human body has to be able to do to achieve anything, without movement we wouldn’t be able to complete the simplest of tasks that we perform daily and manage with ease, it’s the mind that controls it. It is the link between our mind and how it is in charge of movement that is the core of my practice. This is a battle I have personally fought with self-control. There is no figure present as a subject matter in the paintings, however they are self-portraits. Through the technique of building up thin layers of paint that have been applied with careful attention, to ultimately losing all control through the process of pouring liquid latex in-between the layers and blocking sections. Through this process of working I have found a way that shows how the inside of my mind would look if someone were to climb inside. It’s a confusing balancing act that contrasts each other, a constant battle between mind over movement.

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
