My book “Can You Give Me A Second?” aims to educate and inform people about dyslexia, hoping they can sympathise and understand that sometimes some of us need a bit of time to think. Whilst dyslexia is well known as a difficulty with reading, writing and spelling, these are not the only three contributory factors. I decided to create this book having been diagnosed with dyslexia in the early summer of 2019. Afterwards, I found out there is a lot more to dyslexia than just difficulty with reading, writing and spelling. Once I was diagnosed, I did some more reading into my report and through my research started to understand why I did some things a certain way or why I found certain tasks challenging when I was in high school, and still do even to this day. As learning difficulties were never spoken about at my school, I had no idea what it was about. This project is based on my personal struggles I have with dyslexia, sharing some information and insights from my research through illustration.

My choice of media includes watercolours, gouache, acrylics, coloured pencils, ink and fine liners. I create each element separately and put them together on Photoshop to create the image.

Er bod pobl yn gwybod bod dyslecsia’n golygu anhawster i ddarllen, ysgrifennu a sillafu, nid dyma’r unig ffactorau sy’n cyfrannu ato. Penderfynais greu’r llyfr hwn ar ôl cael diagnosis o ddyslecsia ddechrau haf 2019. Ar ôl hynny, darganfyddais bod yna lawer mwy i ddyslecsia na dim ond anhawster i ddarllen, ysgrifennu a sillafu. Wedi i mi gael diagnosis, fe ddarllenais fwy ar fy adroddiad ac yn sgil fy ymchwil dechreuais ddeall pam ro’n i’n gwneud rhai pethau mewn ffordd arbennig neu pam ro’n i’n cael trafferth gyda rhai tasgau yn yr ysgol uwchradd, ac yn dal i gael trafferth gyda nhw hyd heddiw. Gan nad oedd neb yn siarad am anawsterau dysgu yn yr ysgol, doeddwn i ddim yn gwybod beth oedd ystyr hynny. Mae’r prosiect yn seiliedig ar fy nhrafferthion personol i gyda dyslecsia, ac rwy’n rhannu rhywfaint o’r wybodaeth a’r ddealltwriaeth rydw i wedi’u cael drwy fy ngwaith ymchwil ar ffurf lluniau.

Mae fy newis o gyfryngau’n cynnwys dyfrliwiau, gouache, lliwiau acrylig, pensiliau lliw, inc a phensiliau main. Rwy’n creu pob elfen ar wahân a’u rhoi at ei gilydd ar Photoshop i greu’r ddelwedd.
