Tom Lovesey

BA (Hons) Product Design

I am a passionate designer who has a drive to challenge myself in all design opportunities. I know that I am now well suited to a career in design from my explorative design education and substantial experiences of working to live briefs. In both, I have experienced individual and team projects. One project (briefed by W2W, GreyFox, Perch and Anois) explored office furniture design, for which my group received an award for. By applying artisanal design qualities to a human centred brief, my group achieved an aesthetically intricate product.

Additionally, the circular economy and sustainability were prominent factors in the brief and therefore the design. My knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, which I have learnt throughout my education, enhanced the final design to accomplish a total design solution. This was achieved by directing my team to specific tasks which were delivered through regular meetings to ensure we all had an understanding of our aims.

This achievement, along with everything which I have acquired while at university, was totally as a result of the experiences the university and my course have provided me and from which I am now optimistic about my future design opportunities.

Rwy’n ddylunydd angerddol sydd â chymhelliant i herio fy hun ym mhob cyfle a ddaw i mi wrth ddylunio. Gwn fy mod yn addas iawn erbyn hyn ar gyfer gyrfa ym maes dylunio yn sgil fy addysg ddylunio archwiliol a phrofiad sylweddol o weithio i friffiau byw. Yn y naill a’r llall, rwyf wedi cael profiad o brosiectau unigol a thîm. Archwiliodd un prosiect (a gafodd friff gan W2W, GreyFox, Perch ac Anois) ddyluniad dodrefn swyddfa, a gwobrwywyd fy ngrŵp am y gwaith hwn.

Drwy gymhwyso rhinweddau dylunio crefftus i friff sy’n canolbwyntio ar bobl, cyflawnodd fy ngrŵp gynnyrch sy’n gymhleth yn esthetaidd. Yn ogystal, roedd yr economi gylchol a chynaliadwyedd yn ffactorau amlwg yn y briff ac felly’r dyluniad. Mae fy ngwybodaeth am ddeunyddiau a phrosesau gweithgynhyrchu, a ddysgais drwy gydol fy addysg, wedi gwella’r dyluniad terfynol i gyflawni ateb dylunio cynhwysfawr. Cyflawnwyd hyn drwy gyfeirio fy nhîm at dasgau penodol a gyflawnwyd drwy gyfarfodydd rheolaidd er mwyn sicrhau bod pob un ohonom yn deall ein nodau.

Roedd y cyflawniad hwn, ynghyd â phopeth rwyf wedi’i ddysgu yn y brifysgol, yn gyfan gwbl o ganlyniad i’r profiadau y mae’r brifysgol a’m cwrs wedi’u darparu ac yn eu sgil rwy’n obeithiol erbyn hyn ynglŷn â’m cyfleoedd dylunio yn y dyfodol.

Render showing a wrist splint, designed in collaboration with design research consultancy PDR. Creating a product that addresses commonly found issues with existing wrist splint products on the market.

Mae’r rendrad yn dangos sblint arddwrn, wedi’i gynllunio mewn cydweithrediad â’r ymgynghoriaeth ymchwil dylunio PDR. Yn creu cynnyrch sy’n mynd i’r afael â’r broblem gyffredin a geir gyda chynhyrchion sblint arddwrn presennol sydd ar y farchnad.

Exploded view render of a domestic clean air product. As a part of my Major project, I have explored the current issues within domestic air pollution, and address these issues by design a dehumidifier and air purifier product.

Rendrad golwg daenedig o gynnyrch aer glân domestig. Fel rhan o’m Prif brosiect, rwyf wedi archwilio’r problemau presennol mewn llygredd aer domestig, ac wedi mynd i’r afael â’r problemau hyn trwy ddylunio dadleithydd a chynnyrch puro’r aer.

In situ render of an innovative chopping board design. For my minor project, I redesigned the common chopping board to better suit smaller living spaces. Exploring the user’s interaction with the product and considering how to best maximise the chopping boards utility of space.

Rendrad in situ o ddyluniad bwrdd torri arloesol. Ar gyfer fy mhrosiect llai, ail-ddyluniais y bwrdd torri cyffredin i fod yn fwy addas ar gyfer mannau byw llai. Gan archwilio rhyngweithiad y defnyddiwr gyda’r cynnyrch ac ystyried sut i hyrwyddo defnydd y bwrdd torri o ofod orau.

In situ render of the dehumidifier and air purifier domestic clean air product that I designed for my 3rd year major project. The key to this project was to understand that a consumer may realise that they need a product, but for other reasons, they may choose not to purchase it. The solution to this was designing a product that significantly stood out aesthetically compared with the other market leading products.

Rendrad in situ o’r dadleithydd a’r cynnyrch aer glân domestig puro’r aer a ddyluniais ar gyfer fy mhrif brosiect yn fy 3edd flwyddyn. Yr allwedd i’r prosiect hwn oedd deall y gallai defnyddiwr sylweddoli bod angen cynnyrch arno ond am resymau eraill, gall ddewis peidio â’i brynu. Yr ateb i hyn oedd dylunio cynnyrch a oedd yn sefyll allan yn amlwg yn esthetig o gymharu â’r cynhyrchion blaenllaw eraill ar y farchnad.
