Originally from China, I have always been inspired by silhouettes and movement. I am passionate about storytelling, I working across different media including ink, watercolour, collage and a range of printmaking techniques.

‘The City of Organs’ is a picture book about how a brave queen uses her half heart to call out The Seven-Warrior Armies to fight against the darkness and finally defeat them. It is a fictional story inspired by visiting museums and galleries in London. After extensive exploration of possible media, the final book combines a variety of textures, all cohered with the ink drawing.

Through my interests in art therapy, criminology and mental health, I have learned that picture books play an important role in education, from an early age. Indeed, picture books may be the first art works we encounter as children. With care and imagination, I think they can be used to inform and educate children about death, war and the darker side of humanity. I hope my visual images not only guide children to better understand the world, but may also prompt adults to reflect about themselves, society and real life.

Rwy’n dod o Tsieina’n wreiddiol a wastad wedi cael fy ysbrydoli gan silwetau a symudiad. Rydw i wrth fy modd gydag adrodd straeon, ac yn gweithio ar draws cyfryngau gwahanol yn cynnwys inc, dyfrlliw, collage ac amryw o dechnegau argraffu.

Llyfr lluniau yw ‘The City of Organs’ sy’n sôn am sut mae brenhines ddewr yn defnyddio ei hanner calon i alw ar y Saith Fyddin i ymladd yn erbyn y tywyllwch a’i guro yn y pen draw. Stori ffuglennol yw hon a ysbrydolwyd gan ymweliadau i amgueddfeydd ac orielau yn Llundain. Ar ôl archwilio cyfryngau posibl yn helaeth, mae’r llyfr terfynol yn cyfuno amrywiaeth o weadau, wedi’u cydlynu gyda’r darluniad inc.

Drwy fy niddordebau mewn therapi celf, troseddeg ac iechyd meddwl, rydw i wedi dysgu bod gan lyfrau lluniau rôl bwysig mewn addysg, o oedran cynnar. Yn wir, efallai mai llyfrau lluniau yw’r gwaith celf cyntaf y deuwn ar eu traws fel plant. Gyda gofal a dychymyg, mae’n bosibl eu defnyddio i oleuo ac addysgu plant am farwolaeth, rhyfel ac ochr dywyllaf pobl. Rwy’n gobeithio bod fy lluniau’n arwain plant i ddeall y byd yn well, ac yn ysgogi oedolion i fyfyrio amdanyn nhw eu hunain, am gymdeithas a bywyd go iawn.
