“Dance above the surface of the world. Let your thoughts lift you in to creativity that is not hampered by opinion”
– Red Haircrow
The work is a visual experience of my own creative practice; a way of actualising the unseen without a verbal language. I play with the conventional notion of the wheel thrown form by recording a non-verbal conversation of my experiences through the creative process, encapsulated within a visible entity.
My practice is not dissimilar to that of the dancer, who uses different rhythms to layer a dance. The same cadence layered musically, continually beginning and ending at different points reflect the actions associated in the production of the work, such as: the push and the Pull and the reproduction, reassembling and recasting of a uniform or patterned existence of strong and tempered melodic and rhythmic beats.
Placed on Perspex, both the shape of the form and the reflective qualities of the celadon glaze are accentuated externally and internally, creating an experience of depth which permeates below the base of the porcelain form.
The unconstrained, holistic approach I take to my work is born of an intrinsic interest in human psychology. This approach allows a playful experience to manifest itself in the work which prompts the transformation of moments of serendipity into something tangible and enduring.
