Art is the core of my life. It influences nearly everything I do from dressing myself to cooking or designing and making furniture. I particularly enjoyed the opportunities provided during my course at Cardiff Met to explore other creative activities and processes like ceramics and metalwork.

My journey into art and architecture began as a child drawing and painting on every wall of my parent’s house and playfully exploring designs in terracotta, paper and LEGO. Watching my son growing from a toddler into a little boy during my time in university and seeing his artistic development experimenting with different materials copying my designs and creating his own made me realise how early I too started in this process.

I am still as curious and explorative finding inspiration in nature just as I did as a child. The majority of my design work during the course was inspired by nature. It is in everything we see, feel, smell, touch, hear and imagine. For me, architecture is about living spaces designed to satisfy a specific requirement in the daily life of humans, either to make us feel protected, happy, peaceful or free.

Post-modern design is of particular interest to me and I endeavour to be innovative in my design approach. Zaha Hadid in particular continues to be a great inspiration to me as I seek to find a way of enveloping human existence in natural or geometric forms.

Celf yw craidd fy mywyd. Mae’n dylanwadu ar bopeth a wnaf fwy neu lai, o ddilladu fy hunan hyd at goginio neu ddylunio a gwneud celfi. Fe wnes i fwynhau’n arbennig y cyfleoedd a ddarparwyd gan fy nghwrs ym Met Caerdydd i archwilio gweithgareddau a phrosesau creadigol eraill megis cerameg a gwaith metel.
Dechreuodd fy siwrnai ar drywydd celf a phensaernïaeth a minnau’n blentyn yn tynnu lluniau ac yn peintio ar bob wal yng nghartref fy nheulu ac yn archwilio’n chwareus ddyluniadau mewn teracota, papur a LEGO. Fe wnaeth gwylio fy mab yn tyfu o fod yn un bychan i fod yn fachgen bach diogel yn ystod fy amser yn y brifysgol a gweld ei ddatblygiad artistig wrth iddo arbrofi â deunyddiau gwahanol, gan gopïo fy nyluniadau innau a chreu ei ddyluniadau ef ei hun, i mi sylweddoli pa mor gynnar roeddwn i hefyd yn dechrau’r broses hon.

Rwy’n dal i fod mor chwilfrydig a pharod i archwilio ag erioed gan ganfod ysbrydoliaeth mewn natur yn union fel y gwnes i yn blentyn. Natur wnaeth ysbrydoli’r rhan fwyaf o’m dyluniadau yn ystod y cwrs. Mae ym mhopeth a welwn, a deimlwn, a aroglwn, a wnawn ei gyffwrdd, ei glywed a’i ddychmygu. I mi, pae pensaernïaeth yn ymwneud yn hollol â gofodau byw a fydd wedi’u dylunio i foddhau gofyniad penodol ym mywydau bob dydd bodau dynol, naill ai i ni gael teimlo ein bod wedi’n diogelu, yn hapus, yn dawel ein meddwl neu’n rhydd.

Mae dylunio ôl-fodern o ddiddordeb penodol i fi a byddaf yn gwneud fy ngorau i fod yn arloesol wrth fynd ati i ddylunio. Mae Zaha Hadid yn enwedig yn parhau i fod yn ysbrydoliaeth fawr i fi wrth i fi geisio cael hyd i ffordd o amgylchynu’r fodolaeth ddynol â ffurfiau naturiol neu geometrig.
