BA (Hons) Product Design

I believe product design is a tool to enhance and simplify the lives of people of all classes and cultural backgrounds. My goal as a designer is to help create a future that continues to promote digitisation and technological growth and to accomplish the former without sacrifice to ethics, sustainability, and with great respect for nature, which I believe to be noticeably absent among major developments from the last few centuries.

My strengths are in detailing affordances in user interface and creating products that can challenge expectations while retaining what makes them familiar and in turn, intuitive. I excel at creating physical products that can be easily recognised and systems that are simple to learn.

Nature and music are my biggest inspirations, and themes of which can be found throughout my work, making up the materials, forms, and inspiring the ideas behind concepts. My work features heavy CAD use and user interface design, as I find it helps to greater visualise and imagine a product early in the project development stages.

Rwy’n credu bod dylunio cynnyrch yn arf i wella a symleiddio bywydau pobl o bob dosbarth cymdeithasol a chefndir diwylliannol. Fy nod fel dylunydd yw helpu creu dyfodol sy’n parhau i hybu digideiddio a thwf technolegol a chyflawni’r un cyntaf heb aberthu moeseg, cynaladwyedd, a gyda pharch mawr at natur, rhywbeth y credaf ei fod yn nodedig o absennol ymysg prif ddatblygiadau’r canrifoedd diwethaf.

Fy nghryfderau yw manylu priodweddau awgrymiadol mewn rhyngwyneb defnyddwyr a chreu cynnyrch a all herio disgwyliadau ac ar yr un pryd cadw’r hyn sy’n eu gwneud yn gyfarwydd ac yn ei dro, yn sythweledol. Rhagoraf wrth greu cynnyrch diriaethol all gael ei adnabod yn hawdd a systemau sy’n syml i’w dysgu.

Natur a cherddoriaeth yw fy ysbrydoliaethau pennaf, y gellir dod i themâu ohonynt trwy gydol fy ngwaith, gan greu’r deunyddiau a ffurfiau a chan ysbrydoli’r syniadau y tu ôl i’r cysyniadau. Mae fy ngwaith yn cynnwys defnydd sylweddol o CAD a dylunio’r rhyngwyneb defnyddiwr, gan y gwelaf ei fod yn gymorth wrth ddelweddu a dychmygu cynnyrch yn fwy mewn un o’r camau datblygu prosiect cynnar.

This work is a digital 3d render of a group project featuring myself, Amber Davies and Rhiannon Rouch. It shows one of the many proposed layouts for our modular office furniture. This layout encourages open and collaborative work amongst colleagues, and best fulfils the brief. The project, entitled “hub” features a total of 5 individual parts and which can be arranged to fit any space and used for a variety of interactive purposes.

Mae’r gwaith hwn yn rendrad 3d digidol o brosiect grŵp sy’n cynnwys fi, Amber Davies a Rhiannon Rouch. Mae’n dangos un o’r nifer o osodiadau arfaethedig ar gyfer ein dodrefn swyddfa modiwlar. Mae’r gosodiad hwn yn annog gweithio’n agored a chydweithredol ymhlith cydweithwyr, a hwn sy’n cyflawni’r briff orau. Mae’r prosiect, o’r enw “hyb”, yn cynnwys cyfanswm o 5 rhan unigol a gellir eu trefnu i ffitio unrhyw le a’u defnyddio at amrywiaeth o ddibenion rhyngweithiol.

This is a concept development board made to illustrate various design affordances of control methods for a product designed by myself, Josh Winn and Harley Howard. The product was built to specification using feedback from another group and features a 180-degree touch sensitive arc to adjust volume control, as well as physical buttons to control playback.

Dyma fwrdd datblygu cysyniad a wnaed i ddangos amrywiaeth o gostau dylunio dulliau rheoli ar gyfer cynnyrch a ddyluniwyd gennyf i, Josh Winn a Harley Howard. Adeiladwyd y cynnyrch i fanyleb gan ddefnyddio adborth gan grŵp arall ac mae’n cynnwys cylchran sensitif i gyffyrddiad 180 gradd ar gyfer addasu lefel sŵn, yn ogystal â botymau corfforol i reoli chwarae.

This is a concept development board for a live 24-hour brief with PDR from a group with Josh Winn and Jack Kenton that has since been revised and expanded alone. This is a 3D printable mesh-based wrist splint to support people with brachial plexus injuries. It features 2 digital sketches of visual design, an early CAD preview of the proposed design and an early prototype model made from steel wire mesh and rubber foam.

Dyma fwrdd datblygu cysyniad ar gyfer briff byw 24 awr gydag Adolygiad Perfformiad a Datblygiad gan grŵp gyda Josh Winn a Jack Kenton sydd wedi’i ddiwygio a’i ehangu ar ei ben ei hun ers hynny. Mae hwn yn sblint arddwrn 3D y gellir ei argraffu sy’n seiliedig ar rwyll, ar gyfer cynorthwyo pobl ag anafiadau plecsws breichiol. Mae’n cynnwys 2 fraslun digidol o ddyluniad gweledol, rhagolwg CAD gynnar o’r dyluniad arfaethedig a model prototeip cynnar wedi’i wneud o rwyll o wifrau dur a rwber mandyllog.

This is one of the first projects I completed at CSAD, this work features a digital render of a portable Bluetooth speaker system modelled after Mission Electronics products. It features a similar form in a compact size, with a tilting body to disperse sound with greater accuracy.

Dyma un o’r prosiectau cyntaf i mi eu cwblhau yn Ysgol Celf a Dylunio Caerdydd, ac mae’r gwaith yn cynnwys rendrad digidol o system seinydd Bluetooth cludadwy wedi’i fodelu ar gynhyrchion Mission Electronics. Mae’n cynnwys ffurf debyg mewn maint cryno, gyda chorff sy’n gogwyddo er mwyn taflu sain â mwy o gywirdeb.
