Process: Seen and Unseen, 2021

Inspiration is drawn from juxtaposed environments- the rugged landscape of my native rural mid Wales and hidden urban patterns of the city. This forging of contrasts develops into captivating works of art which intrigue and uplift.

‘Process: Seen and Unseen’ is a series of several pieces: ‘Centre of the Earth’, ‘Perfect Rest’ and ‘Foundations’. Inspiration has been drawn from the rigid pattern of manhole covers and the undulating hillsides of Ceredigion, Mid Wales. Natural dyes have been used to dye, print and create primitive mark making, while contemporary digital technology provides neat repeat embroidered motifs. Iron, and wool bear reference to lost industry. ‘Process: Seen and Unseen’ binds these processes. These methods of designing and making capture a perfect balance, they provide me with a means of catharsis.

I have worked hard to develop methods that align with the principles of circular design, using organic Ceredigion sheep wool as wadding and natural sources to print and dye wool and linen fabric. I am committed to continue producing truly sustainable work while promoting the abundant resources available in contemporary Wales and Britain.

Daw’r ysbrydoliaeth o amgylcheddau gwrthgyferbyniol – tirlun garw fy nghartref yng nghefn gwlad canolbarth Cymru a phatrymau dinesig cudd y brifddinas. Mae’r cyfuniad yma o gyferbyniadau yn datblygu i waith celf cyfareddol sy’n ennyn diddordeb ac yn codi hwyliau.

Mae ‘Process: Seen and Unseen’ yn gyfres o fwy nag un darn: ‘Centre of the Earth’, ‘Perfect Rest’ a ‘Foundations’. Cafwyd ysbrydoliaeth gan y patrwm pendant sydd ar orchuddion tyllau archwilio yn y ddaear a bryniau tonnog Ceredigion, yng nghanolbarth Cymru. Defnyddiwyd lliwiau naturiol i liwio, printio a chreu marciau cyntefig, ac mae’r dechnoleg ddigidol gyfoes yn cynnig motiffau brodwaith taclus ac ailadroddus. Mae haearn a gwlân yn cyfeirio at ddiwydiant coll. Mae ‘Process: Seen and Unseen’ yn uno’r prosesau yma. Mae’r dulliau yma o ddylunio a chreu yn cyfleu cydbwysedd perffaith, maen nhw’n rhoi ffordd o brofi catharsis i fi.

Rydw i wedi gweithio’n galed i ddatblygu dulliau sy’n gyson ag egwyddorion dylunio cylchol, gan ddefnyddio gwlân defaid o Geredigion fel wadin a ffynonellau naturiol i brintio a lliwio gwlân a ffabrig lliain. Rwy’n ymroddedig i barhau i gynhyrchu gwaith sy’n wirioneddol gynaliadwy, gan hyrwyddo’r adnoddau toreithiog sydd ar gael yng Nghymru a Phrydain gyfoes.
