Surroundings

I am creating small enclosed spaces that aim to highlight sounds that we are surrounded by in day to day life, whether we choose to listen them or not. Too often these days, people can’t seem to spend time on their own, and appreciate time in their own space without being connected to a phone or some kind of technology. I have grown up in a generation that has grown into this new technology; I find that this enables me to disconnect from technology, as I have experienced being without it. I am mainly focusing on sounds, due to the fact that wherever you are it is never truly silent. When you are in contact with others through technology, you have phones ringing, laptops beeping etc. When you have time to yourself, your body constantly creates sounds, just from breathing. When you ignore those things, there is usually background noise of some form. The younger generation especially are constantly engrossed in the sounds and world of techno logy, never seeming to let themselves be in their own space. Will the future generations be able to just sit and absorb what is around them rather than what is in the technology they own?

I have recently been exploring ideas related to the home and memory, and how they form identity. I am interested in how to defy the imperative to follow a linear structure in personal narrative and instead look for a more honest depiction of memory, which is itself...
