Within my practice I want to portray a story of domestic violence and the consequences through statistics and thought provoking imagery.
I highlight the symptoms and aftermath of being a victim of domestic violence, leading to trauma disorders, interpreting the side of the story that is often forgotten about- the victim themselves. I do this by using images with specific meanings with their placement aiming to reflect a certain element of domestic violence.

By repeating images of domestic objects, they aim to represent certain symptoms that many people experience when dealing with a trauma disorder such as flashbacks, recurring nightmares and distressing images.

Once a victim is out of the violent situation people often forget how the weight of the past trauma can still be relevant in everyday life.
I aim to give my work a domestic yet clinical look, using real statistics of domestic violence and rape crimes within the United Kingdom to make people aware of the severity of this on-going issue.

O fewn fy ymarfer, rwyf am bortreadu stori o drais yn y cartref a’r canlyniadau, drwy ddefnyddio ystadegau a delweddau a fydd yn gwneud i bobl feddwl. Rwy’n amlygu symptomau a chanlyniadau dioddef trais yn y cartref, a fydd yn arwain at anhwylderau trawma, gan ddehongli ochr y stori fydd yn aml yn cael ei hanghofio – y dioddefwyr eu hunain. Rwy’n gwneud hyn drwy ddefnyddio delweddau ag iddyn nhw ystyron penodol ac amcan eu lleoliad yw adlewyrchu elfen arbennig o drais yn y cartref.

Drwy ail-adrodd delweddau o wrthrychau’r cartref, eu nod yw cynrychioli rhai symptomau arbennig y bydd llawer o bobl yn eu profi wrth ddelio ag anhwylder trawma megis ôl-fflachiau, hunllefau a delweddau sy’n peri gofid.

Unwaith y bydd dioddefwr wedi gadael y sefyllfa dreisiol, bydd pobl yn aml yn anghofio sut gall pwysau trawma o’r gorffennol barhau i fod yn berthnasol yn eu bywyd bob dydd. Rwy’n ceisio rhoi golwg ddomestig ond clinigol i’m gwaith gan ddefnyddio ystadegau go iawn ynglŷn â thrais yn y cartref a throseddau treisio rhywiol yn y DU i bobl gael bod yn effro i ddifrifoldeb y broblem barhaus hon.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
