The collection is called “Byd Bach/ Little World” and the focus is on perception and perspective. Exploring the idea of zooming out to see everything as tiny as it is from outer space whilst simultaneously zooming in to make visual comparisons with lichen and rock formations. Looking at the earth as one and resonating with the idea of the global citizen. They are pit fired ceramics pieces intended to be objects of meditation and contemplation.
The natural world provides constant inspiration and resources that I am learning to utilise in mutually beneficial ways. Through the use of various different materials, I aim to highlight a familiarity with nature and evoke a deeper sense of connection. The pit firing process is both time and labour intensive and involves lots of gathering; of driftwood, seaweed, brambles, kindling and firewood. I find being outside in the ever changing environment healing, both mentally and physically, and helpful for gaining some perspective.
The pieces also have a multi-sensory sound element to them as they have ceramic beads inside that tinkle when moved. The intention is that they are objects to be held, moved, shaken and rocked, made for tactility and touch, to be listened to and felt as well as to be looked at and appreciated visually.
Enw’r casgliad yma yw “Byd Bach/ Little World” ac mae’r ffocws ar bersbectif a teimlo’r synhwyrau. Yn gweithio i archwilio’r syniad o chwyddo allan i weld popeth mor fach ag y mae o’n edrych o’r gofod ac ar yr un pryd i edrych i fewn ychydig i wneud cymariaethau gweledol â chen a ffurfiannau creigiau. Maent yn ddarnau cerameg tân pwll a’r bwriedir iddynt fod yn wrthrychau myfyrdod.
Mae’r byd naturiol yn darparu holl ysbrydoliaeth ac yn dangos cysylltiad yr wyf yn dysgu i ddefnyddio mewn ffordd sydd o fudd i bawb. Trwy ddefnyddio defnyddiau gwahanol, rwyf eisiau tynnu sylw at gynefindra â natur a dod â teimlad o gysylltiad. Mae’r broses tân pwll yn ddwys o ran amser a llafur ac mae’n gofyn llawer o gasglu; o coed môr, gwymon, mieri, brigau bach a choed tân. Rwy’n teimlo bod gwario amser tu allan yn natur yn iachusol, yn gorfforol ac yn feddyliol ac yn ddefnyddiol ar gyfer bach o bersbectif.
Mae gan y darnau elfen sain iddyn nhw hefyd gan fod yna gleiniau cerameg y tu mewn sydd yn gwneud sŵn wrth gael eu symud. Y bwriad yw eu bod yn wrthrychau i’w dal, i symud, i ysgwyd a’u siglo, wedi eu wneud ar gyfer cyffyrddiad, i gael gwrandawiad a theimlo yn ogystal ag i gael eu hystyried a’u gwerthfawrogi’n weledol.
