I believe design needs is a fresh insight to ensure that as well as beautiful aesthetics we also create innovative products through an appropriate design process. This then promises a non-saturated market and a better user experience. I have witnessed first-hand the extreme and endurance sports industry as well as the culture that surrounds it, therefore I have also experienced where certain aspects need development and innovation and what makes others a reliant classic. So with this in mind my ethos as a designer is to design and create meaningful innovative products that positively impact both your consumers and the industry itself.

This has been achieved through quick high-quality ideation, and further prototyping so that extensive user testing can be undertaken, and upon receiving feedback along with a personal critical analyse, then drive the innovative product development. All of which have been skills transferred and adapted to new projects. Not only have these skills been developed individually but also through teamwork, both as a leader giving guidance and as a team member assisting throughout the groups process. Other skills that have been deemed necessary, especially when with working with live brief clients, is too undergo research that allows for an in depth understanding of the clients ethos and needs so that a design is created that aligns with both their visual branding as well as their core beliefs.

Clear examples of the skills above having been executed would be the range of designs all produced within 24 hours as a part of a team to for live briefs for a set of clients. Adrenaline, a product produced within 12 weeks as a major project that required learning new skills such as industrial stitch work, and further developing other skills such as prototyping to ensure precise test rig results, that were essential to the product’s success.

Credaf mai safbwyntiau ffres yw anghenion dylunio er mwyn sicrhau ein bod ni’n creu cynhyrchion arloesol yn ogystal ag estheteg hardd, trwy broses ddylunio briodol. Mae hyn yn ei dro yn creu rhywbeth newydd i’r farchnad a phrofiad gwell i ddefnyddwyr. Mae gennyf brofiad uniongyrchol o’r diwydiant chwaraeon eithafol a gwtnwch, yn ogystal â’r diwylliant cysylltiedig, ac felly’n gwybod lle mae angen datblygu ac arloesi ar rai agweddau ac yn gwybod beth sy’n gwneud eraill yn glasuron dibynadwy. Felly gyda hyn mewn golwg, fy ethos fel dylunydd yw dylunio a chreu cynhyrchion arloesol ystyrlon sy’n cael effaith gadarnhaol ar eich defnyddwyr a’r diwydiant ei hun.

Cyflawnwyd hyn trwy greu syniadau o’r radd flaenaf yn gyflym, a phrototeipio pellach fel bod modd cynnal profion helaeth gyda defnyddwyr. Ar ôl derbyn adborth ynghyd â dadansoddiad beirniadol personol, es ati i ddatblygu’r cynnyrch arloesol – oll wedi’i wneud trwy drosglwyddo sgiliau ac addasu i brosiectau newydd. Datblygwyd y sgiliau hyn yn unigol ac mewn gwaith tîm hefyd, fel arweinydd sy’n rhoi arweiniad ac fel aelod o dîm sy’n cynorthwyo gydol proses y grŵp. Ymhlith y sgiliau angenrheidiol eraill, yn enwedig wrth weithio gyda chleientiaid briff byw, oedd cynnal ymchwil er mwyn cael dealltwriaeth drylwyr o ethos ac anghenion cleientiaid er mwyn creu dyluniad sy’n cyd-fynd â’u brand gweledol yn ogystal â’u credoau craidd.

Enghreifftiau clir o ddefnyddio’r sgiliau uchod fyddai’r casgliad o ddyluniadau a gynhyrchir o fewn 24 awr fel rhan o dîm ar gyfer briffiau byw ar gyfer set o gleientiaid. Cafodd cynnyrch ‘Adrenaline’ ei greu o fewn 12 wythnos fel prosiect mawr, a oedd yn gofyn am ddysgu sgiliau newydd fel gwaith pwytho diwydiannol, a meithrin sgiliau eraill fel prototeipio i sicrhau canlyniadau rig prawf manwl gywir, a oedd yn hanfodol i lwyddiant y cynnyrch.

This was the final render for the 5 week Live Brief project with DOUK Snow, the brief was to look at redesigning the connection system for splitboards, that would keep the board together and stronger than what is already on the market, whilst also making it less bulky. The final design had a lower profile that the current market clips and provided more grip for the users.

Dyma’r rendrad terfynol ar gyfer y prosiect Briff Byw 5 wythnos gyda DOUK Snow, y brîff oedd edrych ar ailgynllunio’r system gysylltu ar gyfer holltfyrddau, a fyddai’n cadw’r bwrdd at ei gilydd ac yn gryfach na’r hyn sydd eisoes ar y farchnad, a’i wneud yn llai swmpus hefyd. Roedd gan y dyluniad terfynol broffil is na’r clipiau sydd ar y farchnad ar hyn o bryd, ac mae’n darparu mwy o afael i ddefnyddwyr.

Brief: To design upper body protection for freestyle riders, that is both lightweight and breathable but doesn’t restrict their movement whilst performing. This final solution provides a lightweight, breathable and flexible, full coverage upper body protective unit that is discrete and fitted enough it can be worn underneath users clothes and not be visible to other, hopefully encouraging the intended market to start wearing upper body protective gear.

Briff: Dylunio cyfarpar diogelu rhan uchaf y corff ar gyfer ymarferwyr dull rhydd, sy’n ysgafn ac yn gallu anadlu, ond nad yw’n cyfyngu ar eu symudiad wrth berfformio. Mae’r datrysiad terfynol hwn yn darparu uned ddiogelu sy’n gorchuddio rhan uchaf y corff yn llawn, sy’n ysgafn, yn gallu anadlu ac yn hyblyg, yn anymwthgar ac wedi’i ffitio’n ddigonol fel y gellir ei gwisgo o dan ddillad y defnyddiwr heb fod yn weladwy i eraill, a’r gobaith yw y bydd yn annog y farchnad arfaethedig i ddechrau gwisgo cyfarpar sy’n diogelu rhan uchaf y corff.

For the upper body protective brief, it was vital to look at all different types of forms, configurations, and materials, so the solution could provide maximum protection as well as flexibility and discreteness. With this concept I looked at how the triangles could cluster together to form a tight nit unit that could fold over and around each other so these main brief objectives could be met.

Ar gyfer y briff cyfarpar diogelu rhan uchaf y corff, roedd edrych ar bob math o ffurf, cyfluniad a deunydd yn hanfodol, fel y gallai’r datrysiad ddarparu’r amddiffyniad mwyaf posibl yn ogystal â bod yn hyblyg ac anymwthgar. Gyda’r cysyniad hwn, edrychais ar sut y gallai’r trionglau glystyru â’i gilydd i ffurfio uned dynn a allai blygu dros ac o amgylch ei gilydd fel y gellid cyflawni prif amcanion y briff.

When Splitboarding there are two modes, Ride mode where the board is connected and walk mode, the clips and covers designed had to be suitable for both. Therefore, I had to make sure they were strong enough to withstand any tension and could hold the board together but didn’t overhang the board so no damage would occur and could prevent be any snow build-up. The split tip clip cover also provides a reduced transition time.

Mae Holltfyrddio’n cynnwys dau ddull, sef dull Reidio lle mae’r bwrdd wedi’i gysylltu, a dull cerdded, ac roedd yn rhaid i’r clipiau a’r gorchuddion a ddyluniwyd fod yn addas ar gyfer y ddau. Felly, roedd yn rhaid i mi sicrhau eu bod yn ddigon cryf i wrthsefyll unrhyw densiwn ac y gallent ddal y bwrdd at ei gilydd, ond heb orhongian y bwrdd fel na fyddai unrhyw ddifrod yn digwydd ac er mwyn atal eira rhag cronni. Mae gorchudd y clip blaen hefyd yn cymryd llai o amser i newid o un dull i’r llall.
