Amelia Hadwen

BA (Hons) Illustration

Amelia’s work moves to encapsulate the everyday relatable happenings and portray them in a way that invokes the audience to reflect on their own everyday. Through her work Amelia aspires to share the big and small aspects of life that are important to her all whilst ensuring she continually explores, learns, experiments and expands her creative practice.

Inspired by the “The Power of a Pet” Ted Talk by Rustin Moore, this project was an investigation into our perceptions of animal friendships through visual language and explore the meanings of those bonds. The images invite the viewer to reflect on their own relationships with pets and create a familiarity of the realities of being a pet owner. The project also aims to highlight the connection between pets and sense of home. For many people, pets make a house feel like a home and feel a sense of ease and comfort wherever they’re with their pets.
Amelia’s own dog was a huge inspiration for this project and when her dog “Pudding” came to stay during lock down Amelia started journaling seemingly mundane moments shared with Pudding that brought unexpected joy and light during a dark and difficult time. Through Amelia’s work she’s captured life with a pet and invite viewers to see themselves and their pets within the work.

Mae gwaith Amelia yn ceisio crynhoi’r pethau sy’n digwydd o ddydd i ddydd a’u portreadu mewn ffordd sy’n galw ar y gynulleidfa i fyfyrio am eu bywydau beunyddiol eu hunain. Drwy ei gwaith, mae Amelia yn rhannu’r agweddau mawr a bach ar fywyd sy’n bwysig iddi hi, ac yn gwneud hynny gan sicrhau ei bod yn archwilio, yn dysgu, yn arbrofi ac yn ehangu ar ei chrefft greadigol yn barhaus.

Roedd y prosiect, a gafodd ei ysbrydoli gan gyflwyniad Ted Talk Rustin Moore, “The Power of a Pet”, yn archwilio ein canfyddiadau o gyfeillgarwch gydag anifeiliaid drwy iaith weledol ac yn archwilio ystyron y cyfeillgarwch hwnnw. Mae’r delweddau’n gwahodd yr arsyllwr i fyfyrio ar ei berthynas ei hunan ag anifeiliaid anwes ac yn creu cynefindra â realiti bod yn berchennog anifail anwes. Nod y prosiect hefyd yw tynnu sylw at y cysylltiad rhwng anifeiliaid anwes ac ymdeimlad o gartref. I lawer o bobl, mae anifeiliaid anwes yn gwneud i dŷ deimlo fel cartref, ac maen nhw’n teimlo rhwyddineb a chysur ble bynnag maen nhw gyda’u hanifeiliaid anwes.
Roedd ci Amelia yn ysbrydoliaeth enfawr i’r prosiect, a phan ddaeth ei chi “Pudding” i aros ati yn ystod y cyfnod clo, dechreuodd Amelia gadw cyfnodolyn o achlysuron gyda Pudding a oedd yn ymddangos yn ddi-ddim ac a ddaeth â llawenydd a goleuni annisgwyl yn ystod cyfnod tywyll ac anodd. Drwy gydol ei gwaith, mae Amelia wedi cyfleu sut beth yw bywyd gydag anifail anwes ac yn gwahodd yr arsyllwr i weld ei hunan a’i anifeiliaid anwes yn y gwaith.
