The figure forms a significant emphasis in my work.
Since late childhood it has always been something I have been aware of, I’m cautious of my own appearance I often feel self-critical and have analysed my battle towards acceptance, endeavouring to beautify my own insecurities and flaws.
Conversely as an artist, my work aims to celebrate the figure. I look to capture the shape, movement and emotion of the body through drawing and painting.
Being a sportswoman not only helps with confidence but makes me aware of muscle, bones, limbs and the way in which humans can be viewed with an array of lines and tones depending on how they move. I start to see these elements in segmented shapes that piece together and they no longer necessarily represent the figure as a whole.
Often, my work beings as a geometrical drawing and eventually loosens up as I freely express my ideas, aiming for a serenity and freedom of exaggerated brush strokes and layered textures.
