My painting, Still Life, references a collage of manipulated images from a vast number of printed sources to highlight the artificiality in digital media and its relationship to the status created in painting. The compositions in each section are very present, but taken out of their original context , therefore compelling the viewer to consider a new conceptual space for the painting. I disrupt seamless viewing and challenge our passive intake of images, with the modern inundation of a media-dominated world. This embodies a contemporary idea in a historical medium, using illusionist techniques to make us question the relationship between photo and painting. This contrast between photo and painting and exploring the focus of each medium coheres with the saturated delineation between life and its media representation. Scale is used as a devise to emphasise the illusionist technique, questioning the nature of reproduction.

Mae fy mhaentiad, Bywyd Llonydd, yn cyfeirio at gollage o ddelweddau sydd wedi’u trin o nifer enfawr o ffynonellau printiedig i amlygu’r elfen artiffisial yn y cyfryngau digidol a’r berthynas â’r statws a gaiff ei greu mewn paentiadau. Mae’r cyfansoddiadau ym mhob adran yn bresennol iawn ond wedi’u tynnu allan o’u cyd-destun gwreiddiol gan orfodi’r gwylwyr, felly, i ystyried gofod cysyniadol newydd ar gyfer y paentiad. Rwy’n torri ar draws gwylio hawdd ac yn herio’r ffordd y byddwn yn cymryd delweddau i mewn yn oddefol gyda’r gorlif cyfoes o fyd sy’n cael ei ddominyddu gan y cyfryngau. Mae hwn yn ymgorffori syniad cyfoes mewn cyfrwng hanesyddol, yn defnyddio technegau lledrithiol i wneud i ni gwestiynu’r berthynas rhwng ffotograff a phaentiad. Mae’r cyferbyniad hwn rhwng ffotograff a phaentiad ac archwilio ffocws pob cyfrwng yn cydlynu â’r portreadu dwys rhwng bywyd a’r ffordd y caiff ei gynrychioli gan y cyfryngau. Caiff graddfa ei defnyddio i bwysleisio’r dechneg ledrithiol gan gwestiynu natur atgynhyrchu.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
