BA (Hons) Artist Designer Maker

Amy Elizabeth Rowsell

I believe that we all have a responsibility towards the world we live in, and that we need to open our eyes to the natural magic that surrounds us every day. My work, through fictional character design and storytelling, aims to bring forward a loving awareness of the natural world to its viewers. I hope that it inspires us all to look closer at the grass, higher at the sky and more deeply at all of the trees, and recognise the hidden beauty within.

On top of this, my practice is working towards a career goal of becoming a childrens art therapist. This project is designed to not only highlight nature and its beauty and importance, but also explore the ways in which character design and fictional worlds can be applied therapeutically as a form of escapism and third person narrative through ergonomically designed figures and storytelling.

Dwi’n credu bod gan bob un ohonom ni gyfrifoldeb tuag at y byd rydym ni’n byw ynddo, a bod angen i ni agor ein llygaid i’r hud naturiol sydd o’n cwmpas bob dydd. Mae fy ngwaith, trwy ddylunio cymeriad ffuglennol ac adrodd straeon, yn ceisio cyflwyno ymwybyddiaeth gariadus o fyd natur i’w wylwyr. Gobeithiaf y bydd yn ein hysbrydoli ni i gyd i edrych yn agosach ar y glaswellt, yn uwch ar yr awyr ac yn ddyfnach ar bob un o’r coed, ac adnabod yr harddwch cudd sydd ynddyn nhw.

Ar ben hyn, mae fy ymarfer yn gweithio tuag at nod gyrfaol o ddod yn therapydd celf i blant. Nid amlygu natur a’i harddwch a’i bwysigrwydd yw unig nod y prosiect hwn, ond archwilio’r ffyrdd y gellir cymhwyso dyluniad cymeriadau a byd ffuglennol yn therapiwtig hefyd, fel ffurf o ddihangfa a naratif trydydd person trwy ffigurau wedi’u dylunio’n ergonomaidd ac adrodd straeon.
