BA (Hons) Interior Design

I am greatly influenced by the natural world and wish to form a connection between humans and nature through my designs using form, texture, and colour. I find inspiration from the beauty and complexity of the natural world and aim to reflect this interest in my designs. I strongly believe nature to have powerful positive effects on the well-being of those experiencing it, therefore I strive to create indirect connections between the user and nature when designing a space to provoke similar feelings of relaxation and safety within the built environment. These psychological effects can be achieved most successfully through appealing to all the human senses to create mood and atmosphere. When designing, I consider how a space will engage the users’ senses through a variety of techniques which work together to create a holistic experience.

My design strengths lie in the materiality of a space, with my key moves often being a material choice which goes on to drive my work. I enjoy focusing my designs upon an interesting and prominent material and find this ensures my projects are cohesive in their design language. Materiality is often where my attention on sustainable choices is directed. Designers hold an important role in society for taking responsibility for there work and its effects on the environment. I believe the future of our environment is dependent on designers embedding sustainability into their work and I personally intend to continue working towards this goal by becoming a sustainable interior designer.

Mae’r byd naturiol yn dylanwadu’n fawr arna i ac rydw i eisiau creu cysylltiad rhwng pobl a natur drwy fy nyluniadau gan ddefnyddio ffurf, gwead a lliw. Rwy’n cael fy ysbrydoli gan harddwch a chymhlethdod y byd naturiol a’m nod yw adlewyrchu’r diddordeb hwn yn fy nyluniadau. Rwy’n credu’n gryf bod natur yn cael effaith gadarnhaol bwerus ar les y rhai sy’n ei brofi, ac felly rwy’n ceisio creu cysylltiadau anuniongyrchol rhwng y defnyddiwr a natur wrth ddylunio gofod i ysgogi teimladau tebyg o ymlacio a diogelwch yn yr amgylchedd adeiledig. Gellir cyflawni’r effeithiau seicolegol hyn yn fwyaf llwyddiannus drwy apelio at yr holl synhwyrau dynol i greu naws ac awyrgylch. Wrth ddylunio, rwy’n ystyried sut y bydd gofod yn ymgysylltu â synhwyrau’r defnyddwyr drwy amrywiaeth o dechnegau sy’n gweithio gyda’i gilydd i greu profiad cyfannol.

Mae fy nghryfderau dylunio’n ymwneud â defnyddioldeb gofod, gyda’m camau allweddol yn aml yn ddewis yn ymwneud â defnydd sydd wedyn yn llywio fy ngwaith. Rwy’n mwynhau canolbwyntio fy nyluniadau ar ddeunydd diddorol ac amlwg ac yn gweld bod hyn yn sicrhau bod fy mhrosiectau’n gydlynol yn eu hiaith ddylunio. Mae defnyddioldeb yn digwydd yn aml lle mae fy sylw ar ddewisiadau cynaliadwy yn cael ei gyfeirio. Mae gan ddylunwyr rôl bwysig mewn cymdeithas o ran ysgwyddo cyfrifoldeb am eu gwaith a’i effeithiau ar yr amgylchedd. Rwy’n credu bod dyfodol ein hamgylchedd yn dibynnu ar ddylunwyr yn ymgorffori cynaliadwyedd yn eu gwaith ac, yn bersonol, rwy’n bwriadu parhau i weithio tuag at y nod hwn drwy ddod yn ddylunydd mewnol cynaliadwy.

Unlike some, I cannot say that I always knew Interior Design was the route I was destined to go down. While I have always had a keen eye and a strong love for artistic design, for me, designing a space seemed like more of a hobby rather than a job that I could pursue...

I’m not one for grand philosophical ideas through design that will ultimately end up being someones living or work space. As a designer all I really aspire to do is create something that is of value to the person using that bit of design whether it’s a space or a...

What interior design means to me is creating a space that reaches its purpose’s full potential. Creating a successful interior design is to produce designs that are easily understood, have functionality and have recognisable aesthetics. When approaching an interior...

The intrigue within me in relation to creating inclusive dimensions derives from being well travelled and primarily being in close contact with disabled children. In 2015 I volunteered for an organisation called Allsorts in Stroud, aiming to provide fun activities for...

To me, design is about working with others to find solutions to their problems. It is only by getting onto someone else’s level and experiencing their journey and needs can one create an experience that doesn’t make assumptions. It is how we use design as a tool to...
