Illustration for me is storytelling. It is exploring. It is expanding on the visual narrative and telling tales to comfort, to bring joy, or to inform. In my work, I enjoy using soft colours and tend to use either watercolour or digital mediums to produce it. Most recently I have been inspired by botany but I have long been inspired by fantasy, history and mythology in the creation of my work.

“Læce” is an illustrated book following the story of a herbalist and their cat. Told through the herbalist’s diary entries, the reader is led by the herbalist’s cat through a series of illustrations. The book aims to give an insight into the interesting history of the practice of herbal medicine, whilst remaining a lighthearted narrative work. The book also contains the welsh names for each of the herbs mentioned. Each Illustration was created digitally in Procreate and the font is handmade.

Adrodd stori yw Darlunio i mi. Archwilio. Ymhelaethu ar y naratif gweledol ac adrodd storïau i gysuro, cynnig llawenydd, neu hysbysu. Yn fy ngwaith, rydw i’n mwynhau defnyddio lliwiau ysgafn a thueddaf ddefnyddio cyfryngau digidol neu ddyfrlliwiau i’w gynhyrchu. Botaneg wedi f’ysbrydoli i’n ddiweddar, ond ers tro, ffantasi, hanes a mytholeg sydd wedi f’ysbrydoli i wrth greu fy ngwaith.

Llyfr wedi’i ddarlunio yw “Læce”, yn dilyn hanes llysieuydd a’i gath. Adroddir yr hanes trwy gofnodion y llysieuydd yn ei ddyddiadur, gyda chath y perlysieuydd yn arwain y darllenydd drwy gyfres o ddarluniadau. Nod y llyfr yw rhoi cipolwg i hanes difyr arfer meddygaeth lysieuol, er yn waith naratif ysgafn o hyd. Hefyd, mae’r llyfr yn cynnwys yr enw Cymraeg ar bob un o’r perlysiau sy’n cael eu crybwyll. Crëwyd pob darluniad yn ddigidol yn Procreate a gwnaed y ffont â llaw.
