Ocean Essence

My admiration for the coastline and the replication of textural elements that are often overlooked is what formed my enthusiasm for this project. ‘Ocean Essence,’ embodies the surroundings of specific shorelines to present wall art through texture, colour and minimalist outlines of familiar monuments relating to specific locations and seaside related themes.

My project focuses on three key locations along the Pembrokeshire coastal path: Tenby, Saundersfoot and Manorbier. Growing up, visiting this region frequently and continuously making positive memories over the years has prompted me to want to continue making art surrounding these locations in the future as well as making it a home.

In addition, my work helps to capture history in the current time; it helps future generations to visualise what these coastal locations would have looked like in the past. The shorelines are continuously developing as the combination of human interaction, climate changes and natural erosion has caused the outlook to fluctuate therefore I believe it is important to exhibit our surroundings now before they continue to alter.

My work uses a combination of gloss, satin, matt and metallic glazes on cast ceramic tiles depicting location-based imagery to make wall art. My intention is to present an alternative to traditional touristic merchandise and to display a new and unique style of locations that are loved by homeowners and visitors alike.

Fy edmygedd o’r arfordir ac atgynhyrchu elfennau gweadol sy’n cael eu hanwybyddu’n aml yw’r hyn a ffurfiodd fy mrwdfrydedd dros y prosiect hwn. Mae ‘Ocean Essence,’ yn ymgorffori amgylchoedd traethlinau penodol i gyflwyno celf wal trwy wead, lliw ac amlinelliadau minimol o henebion cyfarwydd yn ymwneud â lleoliadau penodol a themâu cysylltiedig â glan môr.

Mae fy mhrosiect yn canolbwyntio ar dri lleoliad allweddol ar hyd llwybr arfordirol Sir Benfro: Dinbych-y-pysgod, Saundersfoot a Maenorbyr. Mae tyfu i fyny, ymweld â’r ardal hon yn aml a gwneud atgofion cadarnhaol yn barhaus dros y blynyddoedd wedi fy ysgogi i fod eisiau parhau i wneud celf o amgylch y lleoliadau hyn yn y dyfodol yn ogystal â’i wneud yn gartref.

Yn ogystal, mae fy ngwaith yn helpu i ddal hanes yn yr amser presennol; mae’n helpu cenedlaethau’r dyfodol i weld sut olwg fyddai ar y lleoliadau arfordirol hyn yn y gorffennol. Mae’r traethlinau’n datblygu’n barhaus gan fod y cyfuniad o ryngweithio dynol, newidiadau hinsawdd ac erydiad naturiol wedi achosi i’r rhagolygon amrywio, felly credaf ei bod yn bwysig arddangos ein hamgylchedd nawr cyn iddynt barhau i newid.

Mae fy ngwaith yn defnyddio cyfuniad o wydro sglein, satin, mat a metelaidd ar deils ceramig cast sy’n darlunio delweddaeth yn seiliedig ar leoliad i wneud celf wal. Fy mwriad yw cyflwyno dewis arall yn lle nwyddau twristaidd traddodiadol ac arddangos arddull newydd ac unigryw o leoliadau y mae perchnogion tai ac ymwelwyr fel ei gilydd yn eu caru.
