The Honest Attention

I centre the basis of this idea around the ideas of abstract expressionism. The vessel is the vehichle I choose to work with, to explore space and time and these objects act as a carrier for self expression. My approach to throwing is intuitive and I celebrate the incidental. It’s only after I get ‘acquainted’ with this period of time on the wheel, that my actions start to make sense. I engage with the traditional values of porcelain and reduction red glazes and play with these rich qualities to create something new. Surrendering to the moment can often have it’s casualities, I loose many pots to the process but it is this part of the creative process that excites me. I have no fear of the potential changes. Because the pot has a life of its own, I try to let it live. I can be a part of the creative moment without deciding how it will turn out.
