At the times when it’s most needed, the humour of daily life can be overlooked. In a lot of my comics I take everyday situations and spin them into something more fun. There are a lot of issues in life we can’t change, but we do have the power to alter how we view and respond to them.
As an autistic illustrator, some of the issues I face in daily life arise from other people’s stereotyped ideas of normality and limited expectations of how people should be. While our brains all work differently, communication differences can be frowned upon in social situations, the workplace and within the media. Those struggling to follow conventions of social interaction – such as maintaining eye contact, following the flow of a conversation, focusing and articulating thoughts and reading the tone of a situation – can be subject to harsh judgement and misunderstood, despite meaning no harm.
My work seeks to reveal and celebrate the comedy of ordinary interactions between people who may appear different to one another. It’s observational humour, using the exaggerated personalities which comics allow.
Combining both text and image-based language, comics are a useful way to explore these themes with a wide audience. They’re easy to read and zone in and out of and they don’t require you to start in a certain place to enjoy the content. Short-form, episodic visual narratives allow audiences to discover different perspectives through different readings.
Beyond this, I just enjoy drawing eggs with legs.

Gall y rhai sy’n ei chael yn anodd dilyn confensiynau rhyngweithio cymdeithasol – megis cynnal cyswllt llygaid, dilyn llif sgwrs, ffocysu a chyfleu meddyliau a darllen tôn sefyllfa – fod yn destun barn losg a chael eu camddeall, er gwaetha’r ffaith nad oes ganddynt unrhyw fwriad cas.
Mae fy ngwaith yn ceisio datgelu a dathlu comedi rhyngweithio cyffredin rhwng pobl a allai ymddangos yn wahanol i’w gilydd. Mae’n hiwmor arsylwi, gan ddefnyddio’r personoliaethau gormodol a ganiateir i gomigau.
Gan iddynt gyfuno testun ac iaith seiliedig ar ddelweddau, mae comigau’n ffordd ddefnyddiol o ymchwilio i’r themâu hyn gyda chynulleidfa eang. Maent yn hawdd i’w darllen a mynd i mewn i ac allan ohonynt ac nid ydynt yn mynnu eich bod yn dechrau mewn man penodol er mwyn mwynhau’r cynnwys. Mae naratifau gweledol ffurf fer yn null penodau’n galluogi cynulleidfaoedd i ddarganfod persbectifau gwahanol trwy ddarlleniadau gwahanol.
