In Pursuit of Form
Bryn Richard’s work explores structural systems using a formalist approach to sculpture with a focus on surface, line and volume.
The forms produced are governed by a set of rules such as those that must be followed to compose an equilateral triangle. These rules ultimately define the sculptures geometric aesthetic and result in a building process that is led by a set of parameters. The process becomes repetitive, instinctual and meditative as the form grows from a simple geometric form into a much more complex one.
‘Form Fou’r has been given a ‘skin’, it’s metal ‘skeleton’ is enveloped by the fabric creating a new surface dictated by the fabrics behaviour resulting in a more complex surface and a more organic looking form.
