BA (Hons) Textiles

As a textile practitioner I have a passion for exploring materials and techniques. Manipulating fabrics and experimenting with colour allows me to create mixed media textile art. All of which are guided by my love of natural surroundings and it’s textured compositions. My deep interest in Welsh history and culture stems from my assimilation into the Welsh identity, I create art to reach into my own identification and feed it into the Welsh community. Through mixed media art I express my deepest passions, justifying my patriotism through rich colours, textures and emotive language or themes in Welsh art culture.

In third year, all projects I have created for have been inspired by important and emotive subjects; the Welsh fight for freedom and independence, North Wales as the land of my own and for my final exhibition piece, a research project into Ocean Pollution and the evidence of such destruction across Wales. I use colour palettes specific to each project to express individual messages and reinforce the nature of my work, when colour and fabrics are manipulated the creation can be magnificent! When creating art I demonstrate my Welsh pride, injecting it into each and every one of my works.

Fel ymarferydd tecstilau, mae gennyf ddiddordeb angerddol mewn archwilio defnyddiau a thechnegau. Mae trin ffabrigau ac arbrofi gyda lliw yn caniatáu i mi greu celf tecstilau cyfryngau cymysg. Y cyfan wedi’i lywio gan fy hoffter o’r amgylchoedd naturiol a’u cyfansoddiadau gweadog. Mae gennyf ddiddordeb byw yn hanes a diwylliant Cymru sy’n deillio o’m hunaniaeth fy hun, ac rwy’n creu celfyddyd er mwyn dod i adnabod fy hun yn well a chyfrannu at y gymuned Gymraeg. Trwy gelfyddyd cyfrwng cymysg, rwy’n mynegi fy mrogarwch ac yn cyfiawnhau fy ngwladgarwch trwy gyfrwng lliwiau cyfoethog, gwead ac iaith neu themâu emosiynol o ddiwylliant celfyddydol fy ngwlad.

Mae popeth a greais yn y drydedd flwyddyn yn deillio o bynciau pwysig, llawn emosiwn: y frwydr dros ryddid ac annibyniaeth y Cymry a’m cynefin yn y Gogledd. Ar gyfer y darn terfynol, bûm yn gweithio ar brosiect ymchwil i lygredd cefnforol a thystiolaeth o’r difrod a’r distryw cyffelyb ar hyd a lled Cymru. Rwy’n defnyddio paletau lliw penodol i bob prosiect er mwyn mynegi negeseuon unigol ac ategu natur fy ngwaith, ac wrth drin a thrafod lliwiau a ffabrigau, mae’n gallu arwain at gampwaith! Wrth greu celf, rwy’n dangos fy malchder fel Cymraes i’r carn ac yn chwistrellu hynny i bob elfen o’m gwaith.
