Chauncé Christine

BA (Hons) Illustration

Chauncé Christine makes work exploring the human experience and the human condition. From this focal point her work takes on an imaginative, spontaneous approach to creating. Her illustrations use strong line work and odd characterisation to create inquisitive and surreal pieces. Which inspire a different kind of connection to the images, producing feelings and energy through movement and mark making. Chauncé’s inspirations are stemmed from: movement, performance, fairy tales and David Bowie. She encourages her work to take on an abstract form, creating lucid, dream-like images and likes to work in a responsive, quick way, using a stream of consciousness way of creating to make a more personal approach to her pieces.

Chauncé has predominantly made work in response to various texts such as; novels and online articles. Using amorphous figures she creates these narratives to summarise and explain the text. Recently she has responded to Angela Carter’s ‘Nights at the Circus’ using ink and mono printing processes to create lucid images that take on the surreal fairytale visual language of the novel to spark readers’ imaginations.

Mae gwaith Chauncé Christine yn archwilio’r profiad dynol a’r cyflwr dynol. O’r canolbwynt yma, mae ei gwaith yn dilyn agwedd ddychmygus a digymell wrth greu. Mae ei darluniau’n defnyddio llinellau cryfion a chymeriadu od i greu darnau chwilfrydig a swrrealaidd. Mae hyn yn ysbrydoli math gwahanol o gysylltiad â’r delweddau, gan gynhyrchu teimladau ac egni drwy symudiad a chreu marciau. Mae ysbrydoliaeth Chauncé yn deillio o symudiad, perfformio, straeon tylwyth teg a David Bowie. Mae’n annog ei gwaith i ddilyn ffurf haniaethol, gan greu delweddau eglur sy’n debyg i freuddwydion, ac mae’n hoffi gweithio mewn ffordd ymatebol a chyflym, gan ddefnyddio llif ymwybyddiaeth o greu er mwyn rhoi naws mwy personol i’w darnau.

Yn bennaf, mae Chauncé wedi creu gwaith mewn ymateb i destunau amrywiol fel nofelau ac erthyglau ar-lein. Drwy ddefnyddio ffigurau amorffaidd, mae hi’n creu’r naratifau yma i grynhoi ac esbonio’r testun. Yn ddiweddar, mae hi wedi creu ymateb i nofel ‘Nights at the Circus’ gan Angela Carter gan ddefnyddio prosesau argraffu inc a mono i greu delweddau clir sy’n defnyddio iaith weledol stori dylwyth teg swrrealaidd y nofel i danio dychymyg darllenwyr.
