Exploring my personal experience of living in and around Hay-on-Wye in the form of a map and interactive story, to guide visitors around the town. With accompanying wallpaper, gift wrap and posters. The project provides a cohesive body of work celebrating the town and allowing others’ to learn in the process. The wallpaper displays many of the popular building’s in Hay-on-Wye, each map design is in both a simple Indian ink collection and a colourful watercolour series. The bright buildings allow for imagination and fun, whereas, the ink paintings are more practical as they provide a legible guide through the streets of the town.

In Grayson Perry’s Reith Lectures, ‘Beating The Bounds’ (2002) he discusses how emotional and physical connections to places help you remember. Encouraging adventure through connections and memory, my map and interactive story allow tourists, children and locals to become familiar with the places and develop personal experiences and responses to Hay-on-Wye. This idea inspired the design of an interactive map and concertina booklet whereby the audience participates in following a journey through the town and completes tasks and collects stamps from the local bookshops to complete the map. This encourages people to connect with local shop owners and become a part of the community rather than passers-by.

Archwiliad o’m profiad personol o fyw yng nghyffiniau’r Gelli Gandryll, ar ffurf map a stori ryngweithiol, i dywys ymwelwyr o gwmpas y dre. Mae papur wal, papur lapio a phosteri’n cyd-fynd. Mae’r prosiect yn cynnig corff trefnus o waith sy’n dathlu’r dref ac yn galluogi pobl eraill i ddysgu ar yr un pryd. Mae’r papur wal yn dangos llawer o adeiladau poblogaidd y Gelli Gandryll, gyda phob map wedi’i ddylunio mewn casgliad inc Indiaidd syml a chyfres o ddyfrlliwiau lliwgar. Mae’r adeiladau lliwgar yn caniatáu am ddychymyg a hwyl, gyda’r paentiadau mewn inc yn fwy ymarferol wrth iddynt gynnig canllaw dealladwy drwy strydoedd y dref.

Yn Narlithoedd Reith Grayson Perry, ‘Beating The Bounds’ (2002), mae’n trafod sut mae cysylltiadau emosiynol a chorfforol â lleoedd yn eich helpu i gofio. A hwythau’n annog antur trwy gysylltiadau a’r cof, mae fy map a’m stori ryngweithiol yn galluogi twristiaid, plant a phobl leol i ymgyfarwyddo â’r lleoedd a datblygu profiadau ac ymatebion personol i’r Gelli Gandryll. Ysbrydolodd y syniad hwn ddylunio map rhyngweithiol a llyfr ‘consertina’, i’r gynulleidfa eu defnyddio i ddilyn taith trwy’r dref a chyflawni tasgau a chasglu stampiau o’r siopau llyfrau lleol i gwblhau’r map. Mae hyn yn annog pobl i feithrin cyswllt â pherchnogion siopau lleol a dod yn rhan o’r gymuned, yn hytrach na bod yn ddieithr.
