Ethically sourced materials worked with traditional tools and techniques.

Throughout my work I seek to create objects that are functional, beautiful and sustainable with a modern aesthetic that appeals to the contemporary consumer. At the same time, I love gathering skills that may be considered old fashioned or, in many cases, considered ‘the hard way.

For me the beauty in a hand-crafted object is in the sum of the efforts involved not only in its direct creation, but in the dedication and repetition required to build the required skills.

This body of work is intended to consider the effects of time on an object as well as its aesthetic and function. The use of raw copper and bare hewn wood will allow the pieces to tarnish, changing over time, to develop an aesthetic element that I have no control over. None of these objects are intended to be fully complete until they have been in place and in use for a number of years, the idea is that they are meant to be experienced as well as used.

Deunyddiau o ffynonellau moesegol wedi’u gweithio gan ddefnyddio offer a thechnegau traddodiadol.

Yn fy holl waith dwi’n ceisio creu gwrthrychau sy’n ymarferol, yn hardd ac yn gynaliadwy gydag estheteg modern sy’n apelio at y defnyddiwr cyfoes. Ar yr un pryd, dwi wrth fy modd yn casglu sgiliau y gellid eu hystyried yn hen ffasiwn neu, mewn llawer o achosion, yn ‘ffordd galed’ o wneud rhywbeth.

I mi, yr harddwch mewn gwrthrych a wnaed â llaw yw’r holl ymdrechion sy’n gysylltiedig nid yn unig â’i greu’n uniongyrchol, ond yn yr ymroddiad a’r ailadrodd sydd ei angen i feithrin y sgiliau gofynnol.

Bwriad y corff hwn o waith yw ystyried effeithiau amser ar wrthrych yn ogystal â’i estheteg a’i swyddogaeth. Bydd y defnydd o gopr crai a phren noeth yn caniatáu i’r darnau afliwio, gan newid dros amser, i ddatblygu elfen esthetig nad oes gen i unrhyw reolaeth drosti. Ni fwriedir i unrhyw un o’r gwrthrychau hyn fod wedi’u gorffen yn llwyr hyd nes eu bod wedi cael cartref a chael eu defnyddio ers sawl blwyddyn, y syniad yw eu bod i fod i gael eu profi yn ogystal â’u defnyddio.
