Elin Jones

BA (Hons) Textiles

I am a textile designer who loves to use the medium of freehand machine stitch as I think that it gives my designs a quirky quality to them and allows me the freedom to manipulate materials and convey my ideas. As a surface pattern designer, I also enjoy incorporating the use of digital stitch within my work.

In addition, I incorporate the medium of pen and watercolours into my designs as I feel like it gives a little contrast and brings my designs to life. I believe that I am able to bring a sense of uniqueness within my work using this combination of media.

My inspiration has come from subjects that I have taken a personal interest in, such as the 1930’s era. This motivates me to create work that I am proud of. The darker and more macabre subject matter has also provided me with inspiration and I believe an alternative theme.

My target audience is young adults and hopefully, my ideas and designs would appeal to them.

Fel dylunydd tecstilau, rwy’n hoff iawn o ddefnyddio’r cyfrwng pwytho llawrydd â pheiriant oherwydd credaf ei fod yn rhoi ansawdd unigryw i’m cynlluniau a’r rhyddid i mi drin deunyddiau a chyfleu fy syniadau fy hun. Fel dylunydd patrymau ar yr wyneb, rydw i hefyd yn mwynhau defnyddio’r cyfrwng pwytho digidol yn fy ngwaith.

Hefyd, rwy’n cynnwys y cyfrwng pen a dyfrlliw yn fy nyluniadau gan ei fod yn rhoi ychydig o gyferbyniad ac yn dod â’m cynlluniau yn fyw. Credaf fod y cyfuniad o’r cyfryngau hyn yn cyflwyno naws ac ymdeimlad unigryw i’m gwaith.

Daw fy ysbrydoliaeth o bynciau sydd o ddiddordeb personol i mi, megis cyfnod y 1930au. Mae hyn yn fy ysgogi i greu gwaith rydw i’n falch ohono. Mae testunau tywyllach, mwy macabre, wedi rhoi ysbrydoliaeth a thema amgen i mi hefyd.

Oedolion ifanc yw fy nghynulleidfa darged, a gobeithio y bydd fy syniadau a’m dyluniadau yn apelio atynt.
