Exploring how to bring the 80s aesthetic into a modern maximalist mix of digitally printed and machine knitted designs. The 80s was filled with neon high contrasting colours, extreme fashion statements and iconic art movements. With my work consistently having an extreme aesthetic, it was only natural to create a project that played with texture, colour and media. Working in fashion textiles, this project is high end wearable art, applying to a female audience with a love for unique styles and slow fashion. In the 1980s, fashion was also explored as a statement. Designers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen would dress models in layers of clothes, featuring exuberant clashing patterns.

This bold and graphic project consists of two collections, 80s Memphis and 80s Floral. The Memphis movement was first started in the 1980s, since then it has been utilised in fashion and interiors and still is a huge trend to this day. My second collection 80s Floral is a maximalist response to my findings on 1980s fashion trends, focusing of clashing floral prints. With a bold colour palette for the two collections, they come together in unison. Both collections provide an insight into how knitwear and fabrics such as cotton and lycra can work together in high end fashion. Knitting techniques such as fair isle, picot hems and intarsia display extra finesse into my fashion textiles collections.

Archwilio sut i ddod ag estheteg yr wythdegau i gymysgedd facsimalaidd fodern o ddyluniadau wedi’u hargraffu’n ddigidol ac wedi’u gwau â pheiriant. Roedd yr wythdegau’n llawn o liwiau neon gwrthgyferbyniol, datganiadau ffasiwn eithafol, a mudiadau celf eiconig. Mae fy ngwaith bob amser wedi cynnwys estheteg eithafol, ac felly roedd hi’n naturiol i fi greu prosiect a oedd yn chwarae gyda gwead, lliw a chyfryngau. Gan weithio â thecstilau ffasiwn, mae’r prosiect yma’n gelf gwisgadwy pen uchaf y farchnad, gan apelio i gynulleidfa fenywaidd sydd wrth eu boddau â steiliau unigryw a ffasiwn araf. Yn yr wythdegau, byddai ffasiwn yn cael ei archwilio fel ffordd o wneud datganiad. Byddai dylunwyr fel Vivienne Westwood ac Alexander McQueen yn gwisgo modelau mewn haenau o ddillad, yn cynnwys patrymau afieithus yn gwrthdaro.

Mae’r prosiect beiddgar a graffig yma’n cynnwys dau gasgliad, 80s Memphis a 80s Floral. Dechreuodd mudiad Memphis yn ystod yr wythdegau, ac ers hynny mae wedi’i ddefnyddio ym maes ffasiwn ac addurn tŷ, ac mae’n dal i fod yn duedd enfawr hyd heddiw. Mae fy ail gasgliad, 80s Floral, yn ymateb facsimalaidd i fy nghanfyddiadau ar dueddiadau ffasiwn yr wythdegau, gan ganolbwyntio ar brintiau blodeuog sy’n gwrthdaro. Gyda phalet lliw beiddgar ar gyfer y ddau gasgliad, maen nhw’n dod at ei gilydd fel un. Mae’r ddau gasgliad yn cynnig mewnwelediad i sut mae dillad wedi’u gwau a ffabrig fel cotwm a lycra yn gallu cydweithio yn ffasiwn pen uchaf y farchnad. Mae technegau gwau fel fair isle, hemiau picot ac intarsia yn dangos craffter ychwanegol yn fy nghasgliadau tecstilau ffasiwn.
