The collection ‘Memory Lane: A Stitch in Time’ celebrates my family and the happy childhood memories we share. Since starting university and moving away from home, I have realised the importance of being with family. The collection focuses on Weston-Super-Mare and the memories my nan, my mum and myself have of living by the wonderful seaside. The 3 main textile art pieces capture these memories and are brought to life by hand painting old photographs onto fabric. Everything used in the art collection is personal to my family and everything works together to build a picture of what it was like grow-up in Weston-Super-Mare; the smile in smiling Somerset. The use of natural dyeing, free hand embroidery and digital print helps take the viewer on a journey through the past and bring them a feeling of nostalgia. On each art piece I have added stitch elements to make it more than just a painting or a picture, for example stitching out love letters or birth certificates helps to make the art pieces more personal to me and my family.

Mae’r casgliad ‘Memory Lane: A Stitch in Time’ yn dathlu fy nheulu a’r atgofion hapus o blentyndod a rannwn. Ers dechrau yn y brifysgol a symud i ffwrdd o gartref, rwyf wedi sylweddoli pa mor bwysig yw bod gyda’r teulu. Mae’r casgliad yn canolbwyntio ar Weston-Super-Mare a’r atgofion sydd gan fy mam-gu, fy mam a minnau o fyw ar lan y môr hyfryd. Mae’r 3 darn celf tecstil yn cofnodi’r atgofion hyn a deuir â nhw yn fyw trwy baentio hen ffotograffau ar ffabrig â llaw. Mae popeth a ddefnyddir yn y casgliad celf yn bersonol i fy mywyd ac mae popeth yn gweithio gyda’i gilydd i greu darlun o sut brofiad oedd tyfu i fyny yn Weston-Super-Mare; y wên yng Ngwlad yr Haf. Mae defnyddio lliwiau naturiol, brodwaith rhydd â llaw a phrintio digidol yn helpu mynd â’r gwyliwr ar daith trwy’r gorffennol ac yn creu ymdeimlad o hiraeth. Rwyf wedi ychwanegu elfennau pwytho i bob darn celf i’w wneud yn fwy na phaentiad neu lun yn unig, er enghraifft mae pwytho llythyrau serch neu dystysgrifau geni’n helpu gwneud y darnau celf yn fwy personol i mi a fy nheulu.
