My art represents the emotions within the meaning of wearing makeup and how it can affect someone mentally. My inspiration comes from the world of Instagram, where many people go to see the “perfect” makeup look and I get inspired by my own makeup looks I create myself. As a makeup artist I like to help individuals turn into their best self and make them feel amazing, I take this meaning into my acrylic abstract paintings by showing the movement of emotions through shapes and splattered paint. In my abstract paintings I take the colours from a makeup look and I create shapes and motions to show inside the mind when dealing with mental health or anxiety and also to show what’s really behind the makeup. I want to show that sometimes makeup can be worn as a mask, I show this by using layers in my work and even though a person can be beautiful and happy on the outside, they might be struggling and feeling pain on the inside. The different textures and layers show the madness and over thinking of a person’s feelings that they’re not good enough.

Mae fy nghelf yn cynrychioli’r emosiynau o fewn yr ystyr o wisgo colur a sut y gall effeithio ar rywun yn feddyliol. Daw fy ysbrydoliaeth o fyd Instagram, lle mae llawer o bobl yn mynd i weld yr edrychiad colur “perffaith” ac rwy’n cael fy ysbrydoli gan yr edrychiadau colur rwyf yn eu creu fy hun. Fel artist colur, rwy’n hoffi helpu unigolion i droi yn fersiynau gorau ohonyn nhw eu hunain a gwneud iddynt deimlo’n anhygoel. Rwy’n cynnwys yr ystyr hwn yn fy mhaentiadau haniaethol acrylig drwy ddangos symudiad emosiynau drwy siapiau a phaent wedi’i dasgu. Yn fy mhaentiadau haniaethol, rwy’n cymryd y lliwiau o edrychiad colur ac yn creu siapiau a symudiadau er mwyn dangos y tu mewn i’r meddwl wrth ddelio ag iechyd meddwl neu orbryder a hefyd er mwyn dangos yr hyn sydd y tu ôl i’r colur. Rwyf am ddangos y gellir gwisgo colur fel mwgwd weithiau. Rwy’n dangos hyn drwy ddefnyddio haenau yn fy ngwaith ac er y gall person fod yn hardd ac yn hapus ar y tu allan, efallai ei fod yn dioddef ac yn teimlo poen y tu mewn. Mae’r gweadau a’r haenau gwahanol yn dangos gwallgofrwydd teimladau person a’r ffaith ei fod yn gorfeddwl, gan deimlo nad yw’n ddigon da.

My artwork was initially inspired by the rave scene which is usually an intense environment of music, colour and lights. I decided to recreate the feelings that my experience evoked, with the use of illuminative acrylics and spray paints on canvas. As spray painting...

Our species has become increasingly disconnected from nature. I focus on landscapes of personal significance and/or landscapes that have been disrupted by industrial use. Materials from these sites (often rocks, muds, and bricks) are used through a process-orientated...

Non-linear narratives such as unreliable memories, leaky dreams and deja vu are a central reference within my practice. I address the structure of these forms of narrative using repetition, replication and iterations of time. My work is largely sculptural, using...

Exploring the fragmentation of memory through the physicality of found objects and the spoken word, my work has become an archive of my family history. Due to the archival nature of my work, I replicate ways of preserving my objects through the attentiveness of their...

In my current practice I am concerned with the objectivity and phenomenology of colour. Through using media such as light and coloured acetate, my present work is intentionally focused and uncluttered, allowing colour to be considered as a singularity without any...

With a love for colour my work addresses form and shape and the impact this has on a space. I am demonstrating how the use of bright colour can create maximum optical impact. I’m interested in pattern and repetition to create a visual aesthetic whilst whilst working...
