Celf Canol Caerdydd

Celf Canol Caerdydd (CCC) – Cardiff Centre of Art is an exciting new proposal for a base of culture in Cardiff. The proposal combines functionality, green credentials, stirring aesthetics and innovative features. CCC is home to a range of facilities including; a theatre, cinema, workshops, classrooms, roof terrace cafe and much more!

The main green credentials of the building are the green roof which reduces water run-off whilst assisting in passive cooling of the building and replacing the existing bio-diversity of the site. The green roof is linked to the rainwater harvesting system which recycles rain water into the buildings toilet systems. The car park and road to the rear of the building are paved with permeable grass-crete again assisting with reducing water run-off. The polished concrete floors are positioned behind the curtain walls of the building purposely to trap solar heat during the day and release it during the night which in turn keeps the building cooler throughout the day and warmer in the night reducing demands on artificial heating. The buildings main innovative feature also combines a green technology. The glass-silicone stretched membrane roof in the centre of the building contains an innovative new technology where flexible thin-film photovoltaic panels are attached to the underside of the membrane providing a source of green clean energy.

Overall the Celf Canol Caerdydd combines a number of exciting aspects to create a feasible yet stimulating building that would fit well into the culture-rich community of Cardiff.
