I am a habitual hoarder. Objects that embody conflicting qualities fascinate me. These are often durable industrial objects with clearly defined purposes and features, which having been used and discarded are redolent with the patina of use and abandonment. I am drawn to the subtlety and tactile nature of these highly industrial materials. I am interested in exploring the tension created through manipulating materials which are considered tough and persistent, in order to create something of an ethereal nature.
Process is central to my practice. I work quickly and instinctively, often in an intentionally haphazard and chaotic way, relying on chance or material imperatives for many outcomes. As I focus predominantly on the process of making, rather than the finished outcome, my work rarely remains in the same state for long periods of time. I regularly rework and recycle my outcomes in a manner which mirrors the repositioning and recycled nature of my chosen materials.
The work in my final exhibition explores the physicality of ambiguity. The work exposes the significance of our human desire to understand and resolve things, through addressing the element of the seen and the unseen.
