Cyfres Traeth
Through the South Welsh coastline there is visible beauty in the natural forms of organic structures that provide us with abstract shapes and unique creations. The characteristic of this location provides us with a habitat that is forever changing, this inspires the creativity of processing work which cannot be structured, letting nature take over. The main focus of this practice is the abstract formations of rock pools and the relationship between depth and surface of the water. Through developing a language, the vision and connection to the painting is transformed. The development of materials and techniques allow the subject matter to relate to the location of study. Using the method of pouring liquid paint onto the canvas allows a movement that creates a sense of fluidity to spread and stain the canvas, however the natural movement of the substance cannot be controlled. Creating layers allows spatial depth contrasting with the surface of v ery controlled and defined outlines. The connection to the beach provides us with an ongoing development of changing structures, shapes and forms that will slowly change over time, it’s uncontrollable but can be captured in a moment.
