The project ‘My Life with Vascular Dementia’ is aimed at the friends and family of those that have dementia. Its purpose is to teach people about the other side effects of the disease, disrupting the stereotype surrounding dementia and memory loss. Its aim is also to show that people with dementia are still themselves, they are not defined by their diagnosis. The goblin motif present in the book and the animations, acts as metaphor for dementia, allowing this serious topic to be more accessible for people. The purpose of the project is to teach people about vascular dementia in an engaging and understandable way whist also encouraging them to empathise with those that have been affected by it. This project was created in response to my Grandmother being diagnosed with vascular dementia, before this I was unaware of the other symptoms and side effects that are a part of having dementia. This experience made me want to help educate people about dementia and show them that people behave differently and say things out of character when they have dementia.

Mae fy mhrosiect ‘My Life with Vascular Dementia’ wedi’i anelu at ffrindiau a theulu’r sawl sydd â dementia. Ei ddiben yw addysgu pobl am sgil-effeithiau eraill y clefyd, gan darfu ar y stereoteip sy’n gysylltiedig â dementia a cholli cof. Ei nod hefyd yw dangos bod pobl â dementia yn dal i fod y bobl oedden nhw, ac nad ydynt yn cael eu diffinio gan eu diagnosis. Mae’r motiff corrach yn y llyfr a’r gwaith animeiddio yn gweithredu fel trosiad ar gyfer dementia, gan sicrhau bod y pwnc difrifol hwn yn fwy hygyrch i bobl. Diben y prosiect yw addysgu pobl am ddementia fasgwlaidd mewn ffordd ddifyr a dealladwy a’u hannog i uniaethu â’r sawl y mae’r clefyd wedi effeithio arnynt. Crëwyd y prosiect hwn mewn ymateb i’r adeg y cafodd fy Mam-gu ddiagnosis o ddementia fasgwlaidd. Cyn hyn, nid oeddwn yn ymwybodol o’r symptomau a’r sgil-effeithiau eraill sy’n rhan o gael dementia. O ganlyniad i’r profiad hwn, roeddwn am helpu i addysgu pobl am ddementia a dangos iddynt fod pobl yn ymddwyn yn wahanol ac yn dweud pethau annisgwyl pan fydd ganddynt ddementia.
