Everything I Can See is an autoethnographic project exploring sight through stop motion animation. Since receiving a sight threatening diagnosis in 2012, I have become even more aware of the precious sense informing my artwork. A remission period, after 10 years of treatment, has given me positive perspective on my condition. It has also inspired me to fundraise for the health organisation that has so far saved my eyes. Combining my passion for puppet fabrication and motivation to celebrate sight has inspired this project making animatable eyes of differing scales. The resulting short film, featuring a miniature version of myself, is part of an envisaged series of informative aids for eye hospital patients. While I have studied my own eyes as part of this work, the puppet eyeballs produced are not anatomically correct replicas, but artistic representations in the cartoon style of my stop motion puppet.

Everything I Can See is also a proof-of-concept project, a stop motion animation show casing my proficiency in costume, prop, and puppet fabrication. The reverse of the large-scale eye sections are intentionally working versions, so the mechanisms created especially for these props are visible.

I hope to further hone the multi-disciplinary skills I have gained during the Maker degree in studying an MA in Animation. I am also actively seeking industry experience through internships in stop motion puppet fabrication and costume.

Mae ‘Everything I Can See’ yn brosiect awtoethnograffig sy’n archwilio golwg trwy animeiddiad stopio-symud. Ers derbyn diagnosis sy’n bygwth golwg yn 2012, rwyf wedi dod yn fwy ymwybodol fyth o’r synnwyr gwerthfawr sy’n llywio fy ngwaith celf. Mae cyfnod o ryddhad, ar ôl 10 mlynedd o driniaeth, wedi rhoi persbectif cadarnhaol i mi ar fy nghyflwr. Mae hefyd wedi fy ysbrydoli i godi arian ar gyfer y sefydliad iechyd sydd hyd yma wedi achub fy llygaid. Mae cyfuno fy angerdd am wneuthuriad pypedau a chymhelliant i ddathlu golwg wedi ysbrydoli’r prosiect hwn i wneud llygaid animeiddiadwy o wahanol raddfeydd. Mae’r ffilm fer sy’n dilyn, sy’n cynnwys fersiwn fer ohonof fy hun, yn rhan o gyfres o gymhorthion addysgiadol a ragwelir ar gyfer cleifion ysbyty llygaid. Tra fy mod wedi astudio fy llygaid fy hun fel rhan o’r gwaith hwn, nid yw’r pelenni llygaid pyped a gynhyrchir yn atgynyrchiadau anatomegol cywir, ond yn gynrychioliadau artistig yn arddull cartŵn fy mhyped stopio-symud.

Mae ‘Everything I Can See’ hefyd yn brosiect prawf o gysyniad, yn sioe animeiddio stopio-symud sy’n arddangos fy hyfedredd mewn gwneuthuriad gwisgoedd, prop, a phypedau. Mae cefn yr adrannau llygad ar raddfa fawr yn fersiynau sy’n gweithio’n fwriadol, felly mae’r mecanweithiau a grëwyd yn arbennig ar gyfer y propiau hyn yn weladwy.

Rwy’n gobeithio hogi ymhellach y sgiliau amlddisgyblaethol yr wyf wedi’u hennill yn ystod y radd Gwneuthurwr wrth astudio MA mewn Animeiddio. Rwyf hefyd wrthi’n chwilio am brofiad diwydiant trwy interniaethau mewn gwneuthuriad pypedau stopio-symud a gwisgoedd.
