BA (Hons) Interior Design

What interior design means to me is creating a space that reaches its purpose’s full potential. Creating a successful interior design is to produce designs that are easily understood, have functionality and have recognisable aesthetics. When approaching an interior design project, my style of work is to use design as a tool to communicate a story. For example, storytelling happens when applying a collection of elements together to build aesthetics and narrative, designing through storytelling impacts the way the viewer moves through, reads, understands and feels the space.

Based on feedback from previous design projects, my strength within interior design is being conscious of detail, when creating a design scheme, I can use my imagination to think about how I want the space to feel and work. Moreover, I like to be imaginative of small ways and tricks that can better design to feel unique and smart. For maintaining this skill, it is important to me to be in touch with up-and-coming design trends and to read about unique designs by using social media. Alike to this, I think my attitude towards a design project is to think optimistically, I take on challenges willingly and I tend to ask myself how I can develop further to reach the design’s overall full potential. As I enter the world of interior design, I would like to see designs curated with conscious design decisions by being carefully selective of materials that are the most eco-friendly and offer durability.

Yr hyn y mae dylunio mewnol yn ei olygu i mi yw creu gofod sy’n cyrraedd potensial llawn ei bwrpas. Creu dyluniad mewnol llwyddiannus yw cynhyrchu dyluniadau sy’n hawdd eu deall, sydd ag ymarferoldeb ac sydd ag estheteg adnabyddadwy. Wrth fynd ati i weithio ar brosiect dylunio mewnol, fy arddull waith yw defnyddio dylunio fel offeryn i gyfleu stori. Er enghraifft, mae adrodd stori’n digwydd wrth ddefnyddio casgliad o elfennau gyda’i gilydd i adeiladu estheteg a naratif, mae dylunio drwy adrodd stori’n effeithio ar y ffordd mae’r gwyliwr yn symud drwy gofod, yn darllen, yn deall ac yn teimlo’r gofod.

Yn seiliedig ar adborth ar brosiectau dylunio blaenorol, fy nghryfder o ran dylunio mewnol yw bod yn ymwybodol o fanylion. Wrth greu cynllun dylunio, rwy’n gallu defnyddio fy nychymyg i feddwl am sut rydw i am i’r gofod deimlo a gweithio. Ar ben hynny, rwy’n hoffi bod yn ddychmygus gyda ffyrdd a thriciau bach sy’n gallu gwella dyluniad i deimlo’n unigryw a chlyfar. Er mwyn cynnal y sgil hon, mae’n bwysig fy mod yn ymwybodol o dueddiadau dylunio newydd a chyffrous ac yn darllen am ddyluniadau unigryw drwy ddefnyddio’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol. Yn yr un modd, rwy’n credu mai fy agwedd tuag at brosiect dylunio yw meddwl yn optimistaidd, rwy’n fwy na pharod i groesawu heriau ac yn tueddu i ofyn i mi fy hun sut alla i ddatblygu ymhellach i gyrraedd potensial llawn cyffredinol y dyluniad. Wrth i mi gychwyn ym myd dylunio mewnol, hoffwn weld dyluniadau’n cael eu curadu gyda phenderfyniadau dylunio ymwybodol drwy ddewis y deunyddiau sydd fwyaf ecogyfeillgar a gwydn gyda gofal.

Unlike some, I cannot say that I always knew Interior Design was the route I was destined to go down. While I have always had a keen eye and a strong love for artistic design, for me, designing a space seemed like more of a hobby rather than a job that I could pursue...

I’m not one for grand philosophical ideas through design that will ultimately end up being someones living or work space. As a designer all I really aspire to do is create something that is of value to the person using that bit of design whether it’s a space or a...

The intrigue within me in relation to creating inclusive dimensions derives from being well travelled and primarily being in close contact with disabled children. In 2015 I volunteered for an organisation called Allsorts in Stroud, aiming to provide fun activities for...

To me, design is about working with others to find solutions to their problems. It is only by getting onto someone else’s level and experiencing their journey and needs can one create an experience that doesn’t make assumptions. It is how we use design as a tool to...
