My work explores hybrid creations, combining the aesthetics of current technology with those of the Italian renaissance. It is a contemporary take on the thinking and the inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci, and how they may exist in our contemporary world.

What?
The collection comprises a series of high-fidelity models which are 3D printed and then stylized to look like renaissance artefacts. Each 3D printed object is painted to resemble specific materials such as gold, silver, bronze and copper, reminiscent of the materials Da Vinci himself would have used.

How?
To begin, I am either inspired by one of Da Vinci’s ideas and I rework it for a contemporary context, or I take modern inventions, which are well known today and imagine how they would be designed and function in renaissance times.

I then sketch a variety of design ideas, once finalised, I work up the digital designs on Fusion 360 and print out the components for each model to put together, the final step involves painting and distressing the objects to appear aged.

Why?
This work is an expression of my interest in Da Vinci’s work/legacy, my desire to learn more about CAD work and to show my passion and craftmanship for prop making, for building and designing things that have both an interesting practicality and a strong aesthetic.

Mae fy ngwaith yn ymchwilio i greadigaethau croesryw, gan gyfuno estheteg technoleg gyfredol â rhai’r dadeni Eidalaidd. Mae’n agwedd gyfoes at feddylfryd a dyfeisiadau Leonardo Da Vinci, a sut y gallant fodoli yn ein byd cyfoes.

Beth?
Mae’r casgliad yn cynnwys cyfres o fodelau ffyddlondeb uchel sy’n cael eu hargraffu yn 3D ac yna’n cael eu harddel i edrych fel arteffactau’r dadeni. Mae pob gwrthrych printiedig 3D wedi’i baentio i ail-greu deunyddiau penodol megis aur, arian, efydd a chopr, adlais o’r deunyddiau y byddai Da Vinci ei hun wedi’u defnyddio.

Sut?
I ddechrau, yr wyf naill ai’n cael fy ysbrydoli gan un o syniadau Da Vinci ac yr wyf yn ei ail-greu ar gyfer cyd-destun cyfoes, neu yr wyf yn cymryd dyfeisiadau modern, sy’n adnabyddus heddiw ac yn dychmygu sut y byddent yn cael eu cynllunio a’u gweithredu yng nghyfnod y dadeni.

Yna, rwy’n braslunio amrywiaeth o syniadau dylunio. Ar ôl eu cwblhau, rwy’n llunio’r dyluniadau digidol ar Fusion 360 ac yn argraffu’r cydrannau ar gyfer pob model i’w llunio. Mae’r cam olaf yn cynnwys paentio a threulio’r gwrthrychau fel eu bod yn ymddangos yn henach.

Pam?
Mae’r gwaith hwn yn fynegiant o’m diddordeb yng ngwaith/etifeddiaeth Da Vinci, fy awydd i ddysgu mwy am waith CAD ac i ddangos fy angerdd a’m crefftwaith ar gyfer gwneud propiau, adeiladu a dylunio pethau sydd ag ymarferoldeb diddorol ac estheteg gref.
