Hold, Scratch, Slip, Spring
Interested in the details seen on the human body, I have often documented forms and patterns that interest me. These either go unnoticed because they are overlooked, or they are purposefully hidden for being unnattractive. I have recreated some of this imagery in this series of drawings. Visually they have emerged like landscapes, mapping different areas of the body.
I chose to use oil pastels as it allows me to be most expressive. I aim to show the movement of my body in the marks, and using pastels feels most connected. Previously my work has looked into how we react to different aspects of the human body. As the work has become more abstracted, it has changed. Rather than inspired by the reaction, it is now the body itself which is the driving force of my interest.
